Seraphim walked quietly along the woods of the known Dark Forest to both humans and mythical creatures. He stopped and admired the small wild flowers that grew everywhere. He looked up and closed his eyes from the bright light of the sun passing through the leaves of the tall trees.
It used to be so dark in this forest and now, “No single darkness is present in this land anymore…”
He continued walking and it led him to the sacred waterfalls. He took his boots off and dipped his feet in the warm water of the falls. He closed his eyes remembering only one person.
His hands touched his bare skin under the water. Their lips touched. His smile made him happy. His body was warm against his. His eyes showed him nothing but pure love.
“Jinri…” his whisper echoed in his heart and the entire forest.
His eyes darted to the drop of blood on the water. He touched his cheek and it was from him. He was sad and in pain. He looked at his finger with his blood on it. He clenched his fist from sudden anger knowing that someone took away Jinri’s memory of him. He was sure of that.
“This is where I found you, your majesty,” Seth spoke behind him.
“How?” Seraphim once again stared at the blood on his fingers.
“With this, my lord,” Seth handed a white satin lace strap to him.
Seraphim stared at it with sadness in his heart once more. He lifted it to his nose and inhaled the lingering scent of his light fairy on it. He gently caressed his cheek with it, smelling Jinri’s scent on it as if it was just yesterday.
“It was wrapped around your entire body when I found you here, my lord.”
Seraphim turned around to face Seth, “and you didn’t see him with me?”
Seth shook his head, “I tried to look for him for days after I found you here. I couldn’t find him, not even his scent or his powers. I actually thought he was-”
Seraphim suddenly looked at Seth and he stopped talking, “you thought he was dead?”
“Forgive me, but it took me two years before I found his scent again. Even Ivory…” Seth’s voice became quiet.
“Ivory forgot?”
Seraphim didn’t need Seth to answer. He suddenly felt the loneliness of his second-in-command.
“Seven years have passed since I came back from my slumber. So many things happened and this is where it all comes down to.”
Seraphim wore Jinri’s lace like a scarf, wrapping it around his neck. He felt as if he could feel his touch through its fabric. He stood up and looked up again at the tall trees and their leaves quietly letting the sun’s rays pass through.
“I want to see Jinri. I will visit him tonight,” Seraphim quietly passed by Seth.
The wind blew and it made him stopped when he realized one thing, “Seth.”
“My lord?”
“Have you recently checked the Land of Faes?”
“I have, your majesty. Saga’s pack had been patrolling the barrier. And like before, it had stayed quiet for the past five years.”
“I want to see it.”
They teleported by the green meadow to see the barricade once again. Seraphim walked towards it and started reminiscing the last time he was here with Jinri. It was the time he tried to revive Jinri after which he found out that he was half fairy.
Seraphim stared at the barrier. Its hallucinating reflection shows a boundless land of green mountains, only on the other side it hides its true kingdom known to mythical creatures as the Land of Faes.
“Jinri has not even seen what his land looks like. Yet now, he can’t remember anything about it once again,” Seraphim touched the hidden barrier.
Its electric current immediately made him flinch his hand away. Demons and vampires still cannot get through the barrier without its incantation. But Seraphim once more placed his palms on the barrier, causing more electric current to spread through the entire barrier.
“Your majesty!” Seth tried to stop him but he held his other hand up.
Seraphim pushed his palms farther radiating more electric current towards him. He could smell burning flesh coming from his hand. He could see the reflection of his eyes from the barrier as it turned luminous red.
He was gritting his teeth from the pain passing through his arms towards his body.
“Your majesty your arm!” Seth yelled to stop him.
He felt extreme pain on his forearm as the electric current lashed through his skin. He knew why he kept pushing when he was already in pain. He wanted to get through the barrier as he believes that the answer to Jinri’s losing his memory can be found on the other side of this barrier.
He snarled and growled loudly and pushed his other palm against the barrier this time. The electric current became more potent as it lashed through his entire body.
“Your majesty stop!” Seth ran towards him and he was simply thrown away when he touched Seraphim’s shoulder.
Seth arched his body from the excruciating pain. He sat up and watched as the king’s clothes started to slowly burn little by little. His skin showing cuts from the current yet he was immediately healing, not spilling any of his royal blood on the ground.
He has never seen Seraphim healed this quick. He was amazed at his healing rate at the same time worried for his safety. He glanced at the barrier when it slowly started to show what the other side looked like.
Seraphim’s blue flame came out of his hand surprising Seth even more, “that’s his demon flame…”
Seraphim growled louder as the current became stronger and was fighting him off, “let me in!”
All of a sudden Seraphim stopped and pulled his hand away from the barrier. He looked up when the wind blew, letting him hear his lover’s voice.
“Vreíte ti mními mou…” the wind touched Seraphim’s cheeks, blowing his hair gently. As if he felt Jinri’s hands caressing him. He closed his eyes.
“Your majesty?” Seth waited for him to speak.
“Find my memory…” Seraphim whispered, “I will, my love…”
Seth watched his king look at his hands as the burn skin healed quickly. He covered his face with his hands and sobbed from his loneliness.
Seth walked towards Seraphim and stood next to him. He placed his hand on his shoulder.
“Your majesty, why are you trying to break the barrier again?”
“His memory, Seth. Jinri wants me to find it for him.”
“What?” Seth couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“Something in the wind tells me that the land of faes has the answer.”
“And that made you stop, sire?”
“His voice… Jinri’s voice made me stop…”
“You could hear his voice again?”
“I don’t know. But I heard him tell me to stop… He is somewhere hidden, Seth. He is imprisoned somewhere within his mind. Somewhere within his body. And I have to free him. And this barrier is stopping me from doing it…”
“How can you be sure that is his voice, your highness?”
“I would know his voice from anywhere. Even with my eyes closed, my heart could never forget the melody of his voice.”
“But why is he telling you to stop if he wanted you to save him?”
“I don’t know. Jinri is trying to tell me something, Seth. He wants me to save him. He is trapped somewhere and I will get him out of it.”
“How will we do that, my lord?”
“I will take these walls down and this time I will make sure it breaks.”
Seraphim slammed his fist on the barrier leaving a small crack on its wall. Seth was surprised with how strong his king suddenly became. Could it be that this was the work of his demon powers again?
“Your majesty?”
“Hmm?” Seraphim started to walk away.
“Are your demon powers back?”
Seraphim stopped walking. He held his hand out for Seth to see. It suddenly ignited a blue flame.
“I don’t know. There are a lot of things that I couldn’t answer. Whatever Jinri did to me five years ago, is something only he could answer. I have to get him back and I know a place to start…”
Seraphim teleported with Seth in the city. He looked up and saw Jinri in his apartment. He’s seated by his window reading a book. He smiled remembering the first time he saw him.
“He is still the same. He never changed.”
Seraphim would not want Jinri to be part of their world even if he is a half fairy, however, he gave him a message. And this message says a lot.
“He didn’t want to lose his memory. It only happened because he was protecting something."
"But why just now, sire? Why didn't he wake you up right away?"
"I don't know. I need to get closer to him."
Seraphim started to walk but he noticed something else. He looked up and what he saw next shocked him.
"Your majesty, he's not alone."
Seraphim watched as a man slowly pulled Jinri to stand up and hugged him. And his heart breaks as he sees the man kiss his mate.
"Seth," his hands were shaking in anger.
"I don't know who that is, my lord. I didn't know he had a lo-..."
"Don't… say that word…" Seraphim snarled at his second-in-command.
"My apologies, my lord." Seth looked up and stared back at his king.
He could feel his anger, pain and jealousy as he watched his mate have an intimate moment with another human.
Seraphim turned his back on Jinri, "let's go Seth. There is nothing to see here."
"My lord…" Seth sympathized with his king and followed him immediately.
They were on the cliff overlooking the forest.
"This is the first time I've seen that man, my lord. Though, while you were sleeping, we stopped watching over Jinri. It was quiet and we thought everything was normal again. I didn't know that he started dati-..."
"He didn't. The real him is somewhere out there. Waiting for me to come and find him. That's not the Jinri I know. He loves me and that's all that matters to me."
"The peace and quiet the world has now is everything I always wanted for us mythical creatures. The same thing I want for the humans to have. But this isn't the world I want to live in, Seth."
Seth stared at his king, he could feel his loneliness and his sorrow.
"This is not the world I want, Seth. The world without Jinri, is nothing but a wasteland."
"Your majesty, perhaps there is an explanation to what we saw. Jinri lost his memory, he didn't know you. He didn't know any of us; he didn't even know he was one of us. It's just a natural thing for humans to move on and move forward."
"Don't you think I know that? But why did I wake up only after five years? Why didn't anyone wake me up?"
"Sera, we tried waking you up. Everything we could use to wake you up didn't work. It's like you were placed in a sleep trance," Saga showed up behind Seth.
Seraphim stared at the forest and took a deep sigh, “I need to know who that person is. Hobbs?”
Hobbs immediately appeared, “find out everything you can about the guy in Jinri’s apartment. Every detail, down to the last information. I don’t care what you have to do, I want to know who that human is…”
“Before I kill him with my bare hands for touching my mate…” They all heard Seraphim growl in anger.
Hobbs bowed and disappeared.
“You don’t mean that Sera, do you?”
“You know that I'm always a man of my word, Saga. It took every strength in me not to appear before Jinri and ripped that human’s head off of him. You all know so damn well what I could do.” Seth realized that his majesty’s hand started to show a hint of its blue flame.
“Your majesty just calm yourself.”
“How can I be calm when the only reason for my existence doesn’t remember a single memory of me? How can I be calm when the only reason I breathe is out there kissing someone else? How can I be calm after seeing what I saw?!” Seraphim roared loudly and suddenly threw balls of fire towards the trees below the mountain cliff.
The earth shook to its core and it was felt in the forest, the wolves howled and Saga looked up.
“Sera, please calm yourself and don’t cause any more damage,” Saga stared at the king.
“If you both see the only person you love more than your life in someone’s else’ arms, would you stay and do nothing? Or would you rather fight for that person even if it means losing everything you have?’
Seraphim’s blue flame is getting bigger in his hands, “this world is not the kind of world I want to live in. Without Jinri, this world means nothing to me. Without my mate this is nothing else to me but a f*****g piece of wasteland!”
Seraphim disappeared from the cliff. Seth sighed and sat down on the ruble stone.
