Chapter 2.2: A Bad Start?

935 Words
After reaching the long wide corridor, her VIP suite came into view. When Camilla finally arrived at her room, she instantly locked up the door. But before reaching her bed, Camilla's body collapsed due to over-exhaustion. While catching her breath, Camilla examined the surroundings to make sure no one was hiding near her. With her acute senses, she confirmed that the assassin was not able to follow her. Remembering her earlier conversation, Camilla wants to confirm if she just hallucinates or if Code is really back. But what if she ensures that the earlier discussion was just an illusion? Will she be able to accept the fact that Code will never return to her side again? But the feeling of possible disappointment came rushing to her. Finally, Camilla mustered all the courage and softly called out his name. "Code?" 5 seconds . . . 10 seconds . . . 20 seconds . . . Only the humming of the birds and gentle breeze could be heard. Bitter tears quietly flowed down her crestfallen face as Camilla hopelessly cried her heart out. The fact that the most treasured friend she once had will never be by her side again is so agonizing. She just lay still on the cold marble floor while letting her tears stream down her flushed cheeks. "Master," called a weak clear voice. Camilla's eyes shot open. But she did not utter a word, waiting to hear the voice again. "Master, I just regained back some of my energy after I used most of it to help you escape earlier." the weak voice added. Camilla's eyes widened in shock after she heard the voice she's been longing to hear. Ever since she reincarnated into her new body, Camilla has always thought about how she will be able to go on a day without him. "Code? Is that really you? Are you truly alive?" Camilla doubtfully asked. "Yes, master. I am. . .alive." "But how? I saw you turn into a cloud of dust together with the Interstellar space." "I also don't know. What I could remember is that a powerful suction force gathered the remnant of my energy into your soul's core before the portal closed. But right now, I can not leave your core, maybe because I'm too weak." Code explained in a frail voice. "It's ok. The only important thing for me right now is that you are alive. We will find ways to regain your power after I recover. But right now, both of us need to rest. I don't even have the strength to lift a finger." Camilla answered with a fatigued voice. "You're really going to sleep on the cold floor?" "I don't have the energy to crawl, more so to stand up. Do you expect me to fly to my bed?" Camilla exasperatingly said while rolling her eyes. "Ok, do as you wish." Code defeatedly answered. "Don't forget to delete all the surveillance camera records. We must leave no trace. That man is not ordinary." Camilla sleepily said. The room returned back to its serene silence together with a blissful atmosphere. The once devastated beauty weeping sorrowfully is now sleeping with a sweet, content smile. ----------------------------------- After receiving his young master's order, Ace went after Camilla's life. Carrying a Piera 86 pistol in his right hand, Ace leisurely walks towards the clear empty hallway making a soft click-clacking sound coming from the hard heels of his leather shoes, creating a hair-raising atmosphere. His hawk-like eyes sweep the entire area, carefully evaluating where his target might be hiding, but she's nowhere to be found. Ace knows his target is a woman based on the silhouette he spotted a few seconds before she made a seamless right turn, heading to this long, empty corridor. There's nowhere for her to hide since the area is clear and empty. It was like the woman just vanished in thin air, like a phantom that never existed. There, at the upper right corner of the ceiling, a fully functional security camera was seen by Ace. He grabbed his phone and dialed his subordinate's number right away. "Look for the footage of a girl who ran to the VIP floor from the rooftop," Ace ordered solemnly as he returned to the rooftop to report his unsuccessful mission. "Yes, Captain!" his subordinate responded on the other line. "Young master . . . " Ace started while bowing respectfully. When he was about to report what had transpired earlier, his young master's sudden response caught him off guard. "Forget about it. You're not that woman's match," he muttered coldly as he checked the stack of documents presented to him earlier while alighting the private chopper that had come to pick them up. "She was able to escape even after what I did." the man in a golden masked added after sensing the questioning stare coming from his subordinate, Realization dawned on Ace after what his young master said. He was too focused on completing the task that he forgot that he was with his boss. His aura alone could make you collapse from too much pressure, yet that woman was able to escape without hindrance. "Is she from that side?" Ace hesitatingly asked while reading the subordinate's report to retrieve the security camera footage earlier. But he got no response from his boss. He can't believe that his subordinate was unable to find the footage. What is more confusing is that the surveillance video is obviously not tampered with. When Ace showed the report to his young master, a dangerous smirk appeared on his well-defined face.
