Venison, elk, bear, breads, pastries, rich and exotic concoctions filled the tables, as did the noblemen, their wives, and the slaves and peasants that served them. The highborn and the lowly wore kingly garments of velvet and gold. Jewels dripped from the ears and hands of beautiful maids and matrons. And the bodice pieces of their finery were cut low to show the womanly wares of flesh. Some women rouged their n*****s with the juice of berries, others draped delicately worked chain mail over their pale pink skin. There were slaves serving tables in little more than loin cloths. Ale was abundant, spilling over the mouths of great tankards and on to fragrantly turned-out fles
