“That’s not like you.” Cole mumbled, “You told me when we first started this tour that the military was your life. You retired from the Marines and took some time off and realized that the civilian life wasn’t for you, which is why you enlisted in the Army. What changed?”
Cole had a point. I did say those things.
Joining the Marines when I was eighteen was an easy choice. I didn’t want to be like my father even though I could have been. I was a big time quarterback in high school and college scouts were fighting for me. That was a time when I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life. I could have gone and played ball and eventually, try to get into the NFL and be like my dad.
