CHAPTER 1 - Going Back
Crystal’s POV
Finally, after five years of laborious law studies in one of the prestigious universities in the United States, I returned to my hometown in Hawaii. I am now a full-pledge lawyer, and a law firm in Hawaii just hired me as their Junior Attorney.
I would start a new life, a life that would be different from my previous life, five years ago. I was able to achieve my dreams and my parents and brother were no longer living in our former shabby apartment.
Five years ago, before I left Hawaii, I bought them a bungalow in an above-middle class subdivision, and last year my brother finished his Bachelor of Science Major in Architecture. He is now an Architect working in one of the largest Engineering and Architectural Firm in the City, while my parents were both retirees.
I felt like, everything happened so quickly and smoothly.
I took a deep breathe and smiled as I walked to the arrival area of the airport after picking up my luggage at the baggage carousel.
I felt the familiar smell of my hometown - a mixture the sea salt and driftwood and the gentle floral ingredients of freesia and water lily that enlivened my senses and reminded me of Hawaii’s beauty.
“Hah, what a wonderful day and place to start my law career,” I tought as I scanned the premises looking for my brother, who promised to pick me up in the airport.
No one knew that I would be coming back, except my family. Not even my closest friends. I would just surprise them in the next coming days.
I waved my right hand when I spotted my brother standing in the left side of the arrival area. He waved back when he noticed me. His smile was from ear-to-ear, and so was I.
“Big sister! Indeed, you are here now!” Caleb excitedly burst out as he approached me and hugged me thereafter. He never changed at all. Despite being an Architect now, he was still my clingy younger brother. No one would ever thought that my brother was like this, because in the outside world, especially in his company, he carried a serious aura.
I hugged my brother back and patted his head lightly just like what I did when he was just small. Oh, how I missed our younger years together.
Caleb got my two big, black travelling bags and guided me to the parking area where he parked his new car. It was not that high-end type of car but for a young man like him, it could already be considered something to be proud of.
We were about to get inside Caleb’s new, red Honda Car, when I spotted someone walking a few feet away. I watched in shock as the man together with the woman, clinging like a vine to his arm, walked toward a top of the line metallic dark gray, Porsche sports car.
I knew the man so well. How could I forget him? He was the man I secretly love for almost six years now, and the man I left five years ago. He was my former fake, cold-hearted and gorgeous husband!
