Author’s NoteDetails of the opposition to the building of the Crystal Palace in 1851 and the details of the Great Exhibition are all correct. Beyond all the blessings of it being an unqualified success was the vindication of Prince Albert. In transports of relief and delight, the Queen poured out the fullness of her heart to King Leopold of Belgium, “It was the happiest, proudest day in my life and I can think of nothing else. Albert’s dearest name is immortalised with his great conception, his own, and my own dear country showed that she was worthy of it.”
