Chapter 9 At some point during the ascent, Maddock lost sight of his savior. He surmised that she had probably headed back down to her submerged base, which actually made a lot of sense. If she was operating out of a diving bell or something like that, then her body would be accustomed to working at depth, and rising to the surface too quickly could prove fatal.
