Later that evening, Raia crouched along the edge of the tall stalks of grain. She scanned the area, waiting for Pi to return from her scouting trip. Chummy clung to the backpack on her back. Pi appeared next to her. Man go inside house, she said. “Good. You two keep an eye out while I see if I can find the tools and parts I need in the work shed,” she whispered. She crept forward before darting to the large rounded shed. Pressing her back against the wall, she peered at the house. Through the open windows she could hear a child’s giggle and two men talking. She drew back and pressed her hand against the panel. “Who locks a shed in the middle of nowhere?” she groaned when the door didn’t open.
