In front of a vanity mirror, a young woman touched her face with perfection. She was not more than twenty five and her elegance was comparable to that of a princess. Her fair skin gleamed under the sunlight and reflected a perfect image on the gold flamed mirror. "How pretty." The woman complimented herself bashfully. She admired her beauty, she was her own ego booster. The woman picked up a pair of pearl earring and wore them delicately. Her amber eyes trained on herself all the time. She had grown into a woman who was desired by many. There was a slow knock on her bedroom door and in came the captivating voice of a man only a few years older than her. "Are you ready Gia?" Smiling at herself, Gia stood up from her cushioned stool and blew herself a kiss before answering to the man. "Yes, I am done." She picked up her purse from the neatly made bed and strutted over to the door. The simplest action of opening the door was as elegant as it could get. The hands that curled over the handle had done many things, not all of which could be deemed as gentle. But those who didn't know, assumed that her identity was of a fragile princess after a single glance at her. The lavender pencil skirt hugged the curves of her body perfectly, the white shirt had one open button, which made the man frown in distaste. Her amber eyes crinkled when she smiled, her cheeks created two dimples on either side of her smile. The man melted with the smile and innocence of the woman. He couldn't help but raise his hand and pat her head full of blonde hair like a puppy. "Ah! You will ruin my hair!" Gia exclaimed and swatted his hand away. The man chuckled and pulled her cheeks. Gia, who always tried to be as harmless as possible, resorted to violence and used her heels to inflict pain upon her elder brother's foot. "Ah!" When Dylan cried out in pain and let go of her cheeks, Gia smiled like an angel. Gia took advantage of his hunched over position and patted his head in return, a little too aggressively. "Let's go! We don't want to be late!" Gia held her brother's arm and helped him walk. Dylan did not as much as glare at his little sister who was not little anymore. He let her hold his arm and walked with her, although his toes hurt from her hit earlier. That's how he was. He doted on his sister like no one else did. After all, Gia was all he had. Dylan and Gia shared their mother's looks. Gentle and smart. As they crossed the lobby of the hotel, the pair of siblings attracted a fair amount of attention. It was another one of her cases that forced Gia to stay in a hotel. Gia had an especially huge grin on her beautiful face as she left through the grand entrance. She flipped her hair, revealing a single butterfly tattoo on her neck. It was a tiny blue butterfly behind her ear. She looked back and smiled one last time before getting in her brother's car. This case entertained her a lot. Especially because the owner of the hotel chain was a perverted jerk. As the attorney of the victim, Gia had to personally check out the situation of the hotel room she stayed in. Little did the hotel staff know, Gia was planning to take them down while staying in their suite. "Today is your last hearing, will you make it in time for our flight?" Dylan asked as he drove away from the hotel. Gia kept watching the gigantic hotel with a smile on her face. The service was good enough, she had to admit, but that did not give them free access to peep on their customers. Bad people. "I won't attend. Brian is attending in my place. Let's go visit aunt first." Dylan was already used to her careless behaviour. Gia had a problem, she never attended the last hearing of her own cases. She always watched the live broadcast from her colleagues instead. She never disclosed the reason behind it, and after a few tries, even he gave up. Gia leaned on the window and took in the familiar route for the last time. It was her last day in California, and she couldn't be happier. The happiness did not come from leaving the place but from where she was going. Just thinking about New York gave her a giddy feeling. "Dylan, do you think he is waiting for me?" Gia asked out of the blue. Dylan clenched his jaw, his hands gripped the steering wheel tighter. "It's been twelve years Gia. If he still remembers you, I will give you half of my assets." Gia whipped her head and spoke seriously, "Don't forget what you just said. Half." Dylan rolled his eyes. Gia ignored him after that exchange. She knew Dylan hated whenever Marcus was mentioned. It especially annoyed him that what he thought was her infatuation, had not faded away with time but instead grown into a deeper emotion. But that did not stopp Gia from testing his limits. Marcus was a big part of her life. If she did not mention him at least ten times a day, it won't be fair! Soon, their car entered a private property. Dylan rounded the driveway and stopped before the entrance. Without waiting for him, Gia flung herself out of the car and ran inside. "Don't run! You are gonna trip!" Dylan shouted after his sister. Her wildness scared her to death. He was afraid that her own silliness will take her life. Gia did not hide her excitement as she threw herself at the first person who was unfortunate enough to come in her line of view. It was their family butler, the poor man in his fifties barely caught the young woman. He was spun around in circles before she finally let him go. He experienced dizziness. "Where did she go, Frankie?" Dylan came in looking helpless. Frankie the butler came to his senses and pointed the kitchen. Sure enough Gia had rushed to the kitchen. She spotted a woman in her forties decorating cookies. The older woman had greying hair and a fair face. She was aging well. "Auntieeeee!" Gia back hugged hee aunt who raised her after her parents death. Leena was pleasantly surprised to see her niece back and handed her a warm cookie. "Did you finish your case? So soon?" Leena asked as she continued to decorate her cookies. She loved baking and Gia and Dylan loved her cookies. Gia had personally request a batch for her trip to New York. "Hmm, I gave everything to Brian. He will see the ending." Gia chomped on the cookie in an unrestricted manner. Dylan saw the sight of her mouth covered in bits of cookies and frosting. Shaking his head, he retrieved his handkerchief and wiped her face gently, "You spoil her too much auntie." Leena, who was watching the sweet siblings, smiled, "Are you sure I am the only one who spoils her?" Dylan stayed silent in self aware guilt. Gia grinned again after he was done wiping her face and ran away. Her next target was the office of their uncle. Dylan did not bother following her this time. Instead he went to his own study to get a few papers. Gia hurriedly knocked on her uncle's office door and barged in without waiting for his reply. "Uncleee!" Gia flung herself on the old man and laughed gleefully. Tristan, her uncle, laughed and patted her shoulder. "You are back. Did you have fun?" Tristan was referring to her stay in the hotel. Knowing she loved to work on her cases in a twisted way. "Yes, and I am even more excited about New York! Did you mail me the invitation?" Gia left his embrace with a pout. If any of her colleagues saw her like this, they would be convinced she was suffering from split personality. Acting spoil in front of her family was Gia's favourite pastime. "Yes. You have your outfit ready? I want everyone to be blinded by my niece's beauty!" Tristan patted her head. Gia giggled and nodded. "Of course. It feels like I'm making a debute," Gia laughed, "And it's an important occasion. Elliot's wedding counts as a special event. Marcus will be next in line, I have to be there in my best attire so he is mesmerised by me!" At the mention of Marcus' name Tristan's mouth soured. The men in her family had the same opinion on him. Even Aunt Leena was reluctant about Marcus. Dylan did not filter his words when he spoke about how Marcus mistreated Gia as a child. The dislike started from there. But Gia was a love sick fool, all she could think about, day and night, was how she could be better. So when the time came, she won't be inferior to Marcus. So he will accept her in his life.
