It has been 4 days since Robin came back from her travels with dreams of a vacation and a late morning awakening. Once more her fantasy of a nice sleep was disturbed. This time by the poor noise cancelation features of the building. There were a lot of loud noises from outside, from right under her window. “Serves me right for choosing the garden viewed room,” Robin grumbled as she turned around once again. She was determined to sleep through whatever loud celebrations pack members got going on.
Her window was closer but the gasps still filled her room. People don’t gasp from happiness. Robin realized and opened her eyes. With a groan of protest from her numb limbs, Robin went towards her window. She looked down to see a bunch of pack members gathered around what seemed like 3 other people. “So, they are having a fight,” Robin spoke to the empty room. She opened her window to get a better glance of fighters; She recognized one from the training; he was on the soldiers rank and Blair once told her, he was one of the best fighters.
Robin looked at the other man standing in front of him, which was way thinner than the good fighter. Wilder. Robin blinked few times to make sure that she was seeing it right. Wilder never fought and it wasn’t because of some noble reason. It was because he can’t fight, especially, not against someone of that strength. “What the f**k have you gotten yourself into now,” Robin wondered aloud as she put on her hoodie and sweatpants; she really wanted to sleep but also wasn’t ready to hear the pained screams of Wilder in the background.
Robin got downstairs into the clean air and squinted at the morning sun. It is too early for this much toxic masculinity. She thought as she tried to cut through the people circling them. “If I were you I would shut my mouth,” an unfamiliar voice said with a growl. Definitely about Wilder. Robin pushed away the guy standing in front of her and finally got to the center of the problem. “Well I was just answering your questions, any other curiosities of yours left unanswered?” Wilder’s irritation was clear in his tone. “If it’s all, I’ll get going, have many other couples to ruin.”
The fighter guy growled, his eyes were shifting colors, his wolf was close to just beating the s**t out of Wilder. Wilder seemed to not mind that as he growled and stepped forward. The peak of stupidity. Robin thought as she observed Wilder, his stance was wrong and one good kick from The Guy could break his bones.
“All right, what the f**k is going on here,” Robin found herself yelling and stepping forward, all attention shifted to her. “The last time I checked it’s a weekday and the pack schedule is busy.” She said and looked around at the people some of them looked away while others still wanted to see a fight. “There is no food, laundries have stopped and children are running free from the day-care, go back to your stations.” Her voice boomed louder and people started to dissolve. They were too shocked by Robin’s accusations to even question her authority.
Seeing that people were leaving she turned to the men that gathered them here in the first place. “You heard me, both of you, training has started 30 minutes ago.” She told the guy, ignoring Wilder who was slowly realizing his mistake and stepping back. The guy scanned Robin from head to toe, Robin wasn’t one to back away from a challenge so she stepped forward. “Leave, this is not worth it.” She warned.
“And who are you to boss me around?” he growled and stepped closer to Robin. Why did I even leave my bed? Robin’s eyes shined with specks, her wolf was ready for the challenge. “Someone who can knock you down, big boy.” Robin’s voice had an edge to it; it had another layer, an echo. She was allowing her wolf to step in through the cracks of her personality, her eyes turning darker in the process. Robin picked up the moment the guy's heartbeat rose, though he only looked away a minute after. He shot Wilder another look and walked away from them and towards the forest.
Robin turned back towards Wilder. She closed her eyes and shook her head, feeling her wolf s**t back to her usual place, when she opened her eyes it was back to being grey. “Nice party trick,” Wilder remarked as his mind went to the other time's Robin’s wolf took over. “And what was that?!” Robin asked angrily. “I was about to fight him,” Wilder said casually which got a growl out of Robin. Wilder sighed and looked towards the direction the guy walked. “That was Edward and I was about to get my a*s beaten by him.” Wilder looked back at Robin with a Cheshire grin. “Did you just stop the fight for me? I am flattered.”
Robin rolled her eyes, “Don’t be. Your stance was wrong, he was about to break your right leg.” Wilder sighed and looked down at himself, “I suppose I didn’t dress for the occasion.” He was wearing jeans which are notoriously hard to fight in. “Well if it came to it, he would have ended you faster than the time it took for your jeans to get ruined,” Robin added which got a chuckle out of Wilder. They were walking back towards the Pack House now.
Robin looked away and a yawn escaped her mouth. Wilder eyed her up and down and she looked like she has just gotten out of bed. Though with Robin’s wolf this close to reach he was afraid of making any negative impression. He might have escaped getting beaten by Edward but Robin wasn’t going to be that merciful. “So, any reason you were seeking to get your face re-arranged?” Robin asked to which Wilder sighed. “I wasn’t planning on fighting really, he just came out of nowhere and irritated me.” Wilder started but Robin’s chuckle interrupted him. “it’s usually the other way around, your tongue gets you in a lot of problems.” Wilder agreed with a smile. “it does, doesn’t it?”
Robin eyed him suspiciously, he never agreed with criticisms about his wits, Wilder proudly always replied with sarcasm, this was too truthful for him. “Edward is Lauren’s mate,” Wilder said as Robin’s gaze was getting harder to ignore. “Lauren…” Robin started not knowing how to continue it. “Yep, Lauren that I am seeing. Was seeing.” Wilder felt a pang in his chest, Robin was the first one he shared the news of his breakup, hopefully, it would hurt less by the time he has to say it to his friends. “s**t,” Robin said, not having any words of kindness to offer. Wilder chuckled. “s**t indeed.”
They neared the Pack House, Wilder was still processing Edward's words. We were made for each other, you have no right to intervene. Keep your hands away from her, mateless scum. The last one angered him more than anything; he is of Alpha family and a ‘scum’ isn’t the way he should be addressed.
“It is the stupid mate bond, not everyone is strong enough to fight it,” Robin offered an explanation, Wilder nodded remembering his own hardships; every time he was resisting the bond it pained him so much he remained drunk half of the year to numb the pain. “Thanks for protecting my right leg from getting broken.” Robin chuckled, “though I would love to see you yell and accept defeat for once, the crowd was too large, no one deserves public embarrassment.” Wilder rolled his eyes. “You have a very backward way of thinking and assessing situations,” Robin shot him a look. “There is no crowd now, might as well break that leg.” Wilder chuckled and jogged away from Robin. Robin rolled her eyes and went towards the Pack House, maybe she was getting that morning sleep after all.
