Long Story

Kiefer P.O.V "How far more?" I ask Max, my new friend. “Just a couple of miles more,” he replied, keeping his eyes on the road. Max is the future alpha of my cousin Lily’s pack. We became close friends after a couple of weeks of my stay. We always train and hang out together, it helps me to keep my mind off my mate. My parents always check up on me but I never give them any indication that I want to come home. Brian always returns home to bring me any updates. "How come you never told me you had a sister, I never heard a pack member mention anything about her also." I inquired. It was strange, I've never even seen any pictures of his sister either. "She's actually Lily's best friend, our pack doesn't really share information with foreigners from other packs. We like to keep things to ourselves. I’m surprised Lily never mentioned anything about Brella though. I swear that girl can talk.” Max said, shaking his head. "Brella." Why do I feel like I know that name from somewhere? "Why don't you tell me about her, your sister, since I'm going along with you to pick her up. I have a right to know," I started wondering if it could refresh my memory. "Let see she has green eyes and dark hair. She’s that quiet type sometimes, she loves to help others and she's friendly. Basically she's a nice person.” He remarked. His description of his sister sounds like my mate. I push it out my mind though there are a lot of people with green eyes and dark hair. What are the chances? "Why did she leave?'' I asked. My curiosity gets the better of me. If she was all of that, then to suddenly leave and return back home was strange. The more he spoke about his sister the more interested I became. Max’s hands tighten on the steering wheel, his knuckles getting white and whiter, his jaw clenching hard. I’ve never seen him this upset before. “It's not my business to say but since you’re coming with me you'll see for yourself,” He replies. I decided to leave it as that and not to push the subject more. “At least I could tell you, our dad wanted her to return home." ************ We parked the car in front of a huge white house. The house is fancy and expensive looking, like you would find in a magazine. Obviously the person Max’s sister is staying with is filthy rich. Max walks up to the door and knocks two times. There was a long wait and when he was about to knock again, the door yanked open. A tall blond hair guy was standing at the door. He's probably around the same age group as us. "Huh, we're here for Brella, I'm her brother Max and this is my friend Kiefer," Max explains. "Oh yes, come in Brella is upstairs she'll be down in a sec." The guy said opening the door wider for us to enter. We followed him into the kitchen passing the living room on our way. "Here, I'm Ryan by the way." He said as he hands us each a soda that he took out the fridge. We accept it and take a seat at the kitchen island. Two other people enter the kitchen. A guy who looks just like the other one, they could pass as twins if it wasn't for their age difference, and a girl with curly blond hair who looks about sixteen. "This is my brother Jace and our cousin Kristy," Ryan said introducing the two. "Yes my father mentioned you guys will also be coming with us, is that so?" Max asked. "Yes, we are," Ryan answered. "I see, so how did you guys meet my sister, by the way, I know she was staying with Mandy before," Max commented. Ryan and Jace exchange glances. "Ah, we met a few months ago one night..." Ryan started. But my attention was elsewhere, a heavenly scent filled my nose. It was yet familiar and different. I try to force my attention to the magazines in front of me but it wasn't doing any justice. "Hello Brella, you okay?" I heard the girl Kristy ask. I looked up curious to finally meet Max’s sister and found myself staring in the eyes of my mate. Those beautiful green eyes that captivate me, it's her, no doubt about that. She looks shocked which is not surprising since I rejected her and had no intention of seeing her again. It's like déjà vu once again, we meet in a kitchen with our eyes locked onto each other. My heart rate kicked up as her scent compelled me even though it smells kind of different. It's probably because I wasn't around her for long. With our eyes still locked I didn't even realize she had already walked up and is now standing in front of me. I suddenly felt a stinging pain on my left cheek. Surprised I placed my hand on the spot, I bet my last dollar it’s red right now. I look at her, the hurt on her face clear as day and right then love, regret, sadness, and many other emotions clouded me. She's hurting and it's all because of me. The hurt in her eyes was beginning to become too overbearing so I dropped my gaze taking in the rest of her and my attention came upon her stomach. It's huge, she's pregnant! As I said the words in my head, I could feel my wolf anger course through my body. I could feel him slowly taking over and I was going to let him. My whole body's shaking, she's pregnant and not just pregnant but for someone else. The thought made me even angrier as my body started to shake more. Those two guys Jace and Ryan jumped in and backed her away. Max was looking from me to his sister clearly surprised. But I didn't care. My main focus was on her and the two guys beside her. I wonder if it's one of them who got her pregnant. It didn’t feel possible to get any angerer, I could feel my wolf begging to come out. "Whose child!?" I demanded to know so I could rip him to pieces. I was met with silence. “Whose child?" I ask again, shaking with rage that she didn't answer me the first time. My hands balled up into fists now, that thin line I'm holding onto is quickly slipping as she didn't answer me the second time." Whose-." I started once again but she cut me off shouting. "It's yours you stupid jerk, it's yours." I stopped, everything stopped, all my anger was completely gone as I played those words in my head over and over again. My whole anger was replaced with a new feeling "HAPPINESS". I dropped to my knees suddenly weak as joy swept through my body. It's my child and she's carrying my pups. I wanted to sing out in joy, my wolf feeling very pleased with the thought. But how? I ask myself. It must have been that time at the party I forgot to use protection. "Oh my gosh, Brella?" I heard that girl scream. I looked toward my mate and saw her pass out in that guy’s arms. My whole body went tense at the sight of her limp body. Instantly I got up and was at her side only to get chase away. "Stay away from her," Ryan growled. His once pleasant face is now a scowl. I growled back at him, how dare he get in between us. She's my mate! I have every right to be with her. As if he read my mind he turned and said. "You rejected her so you have no right to be with her." I wince at his words, it's true I have no right to be with her and yet I wanted too, no I needed too. "No I won't stay away, she's mine," I stated. He just looks at me, takes out his phone and heads into the living room carrying my mate. The others following close behind. I was just about to follow them when I heard Max’s voice call me back. It's then I remember his presence. “If you go it will only cause more trouble. I want to speak to you anyway." He said. Thinking it over I nod my head at him and walk over to my previous seat. "I want to know something and you must answer me truthfully. I've known you for like five months. You’re not the guy to meet his mate and reject her. Don't even tell me it's a one night stand cause I'll seriously kill you. Now tell me the truth." He demanded.  "I did it to protect her," I answered him straight. He should know the truth. And he was surprisingly calm the whole time. If I was in his position I would have been in a rage Max sits up, his face serious. "What do you mean to protect her?" he asks "Well, it's a long story," I answered. "Well, I'm all ears," he said. "Before I met your sister I had a fiancé. We fell in love in high school and after two years neither of us found our mate, so we decided to get married. We didn't tell our parents yet though. A month later I started to notice her behaving weirdly. When I try to hold or touch her she would flinch away as if she's disgusted at me. It never occured to me that she found her mate. He was a new member of the pack. One day I was out taking a run when I came across them together in the woods. They were making out together. *** "What the hell is going on here?" I asked. I couldn't believe my eyes. Marissa jumped at the sound of my voice. Her face held pure guilt. "Kiefer I can explain," She said, moving away from the guy she was lip-locking with.  "No Marissa you don't have to explain anything to him, you’re mine and that’s all that matters." The guy said as he pulled her closer to him. He had an ugly scrawl on his face. "Stay out of this boy, it doesn't concern you," I warned. A smirk plays its way onto his face. "Oh it does concern me you see, I'm her mate, and I will not be told what to do by a weakling like you." He stated. What’s up with this guy? I growled at him in warning, he should respect his future alpha. “Kiefer please,” Marissa begged. I look at her and soften. Her eyes beg me to understand. You don't get to choose who your mate will be so I know I will have to let her go. It's for the best. She was never mine to begin with, even my wolf doesn’t have any reaction. I stare him down, his face still in that scowl. "Jax is it? I suggest you respect your future alpha next time or you’ll be sorry," I said and turn to walk away. "Jax no!" I heard Marissa shout. Before I could turn around I felt myself being pushed to the ground. My back pained me. *** "Everything went crazy after that, we started fighting each other. The guy wasn't strong but he was quick. We kept going at it for hours. When I was about to make my final blow. Marissa out of nowhere jumped in. I couldn't stop myself and it was too late. Marissa received the blow instead and since she was in human form, she didn't make it. The fighting stopped instantly and we both shifted back in our human forms, he was already by her side. I knew it was gone already and I started to feel the grief for her. Even though the guy was a jerk, I tried to comfort him but he lashed out at me, blaming me for her death. He threatened that he'll make me know what pain he's going through by taking someone special. I didn't take him seriously at first but after a few years I started dating a girl and he attacked her, almost killing her. Later I found out he thought she was my mate. The whole pack tried to find him but he ran away and turned rouge. I haven’t dated since," I finished "Wow, that's a lot to take in man." "I'll say," I agree. "I never intended to meet my mate but after Lily insisted I come to her party and the rest is history. It never occured to me that I would find my mate, let alone it would be your sister. After that everything went uphill. I never knew the mating bond could be so strong. I didn't realize my mistake till the next morning and so I panicked and left. I know it was a really shitty cowardly move of me but I couldn’t think of anything else.” "You should have never done that Kiefer, do you have any idea what that put my sister through. Not to mention you got her pregnant with your little stunt." Max said. I could see the fury in his eyes. “I know man, I wish I could take it all back and start over that whole morning when I woke up next to her," I said, putting my head in my hands. I've messed up a lot. "I don't know what to think of you with my sister Kiefer. Should I forgive you or not?" He asks about getting up. "But I'll suggest something to you if you want my sister to forgive you and take you back. You should tell her the truth, she'll understand. Oh and that thing with Jax we need to talk about that some more with my father. Especially when it involves my little sister’s life.” He said, walking out the door. I sit there mulling over what Max said to me. Should I tell her the truth? And what if I did, would she forgive me? I wanted so badly to tell her so I could have her in my arms. I know I would have to tell her the truth, especially since I know I could not stay away from her anymore. Plus Max’s comment bothered me, I will have to deal with her father......
