As I stood in my room looking out the window, I watched as Drew got out of the red pick-up truck he was driving and smiled. He was what I picked a cowboy would look like. Tall, muscular and tan. Today he was wearing a pair of jeans, a black cowboy hat and a black coat. I couldn't really tell what else he had on but he looked the part. As he approached the house, I turned away from the window and grabbed the cream-colored sweater I had on the bed and my purse. I looked at myself in the mirror and chuckled, I looked like a city girl. I didn't have cowboy boots or a hat, but instead I was wearing a pair of leggings, a baby blue dress and a pair of black leather boots. "Sheryl, Drew is here. Hurry up," my aunt yelled. "Coming," I yelled as I left the room and headed downstairs. As I descended the stairs, Drew stood there talking to my aunt and when he turned his head, he smiled. I felt my legs go weak but I was able to maintain my composure. He was breathtaking. "Ready?" He asked. "I am." "You two be safe. Give this to your grandma," my aunt said as she handed Drew a small box. "Will do." I followed Drew out of the house and to his car. As I opened the passenger door, he placed the box behind his seat, then got in. As we started to pull away, I looked at the beautiful open land around us. "How do you like living in Browns town?" Drew asked, breaking the silence. We had been driving for awhile and were now down a long stretch of road. It reminded me of a highway just slower. I looked at him and said, " It's okay. I miss my home and friends, but I love the open land and how beautiful it looks here." Drew smiled. "I couldn't imagine living anywhere else." "You plan on living on the ranch for the rest of your life?" I asked. "Dang straight. I don't know how city folk can handle living in the city. Too crowded and busy for me." "Have you ever been to the city?" "A few times and I hated it." "Oh. That's too bad." I saw the slight smile on his face go away. "Why do you say that?" "The city offers other things that the county does not." "Like?" "For one less drive time If it's cold or snowy out you don't have to drive far. Different options for food and activities. You're kind of stuck with the same stuff in the country or having to travel long distances." "True, but out here you get to know your neighbors and make lasting friendships." "You can do the same in the city." "Very true. Once you graduate, will you be sticking around or going back to the city?" "Not sure." "You will figure out where you belong in time." "I am sure I will." We fell into a comfortable silence as he drove and I laid my head against the window, closing my eyes. I was sore and tired. I jolted awake when we hit a pothole. "Sorry about that," I heard Drew say as I adjusted myself in the seat. "It's okay." "Did you have a good nap?" I smiled and said, "I did. Sorry I didn't keep you company." "It's okay. Working on the ranch can be draining." "It can be. I cleaned some of the horse stalls , fed them and brushed a couple of them before we left." "You will get used to it over time. I bet Mia was pissed off she couldn't come." "She was. I'm shocked she didn't try to come with us." "She knew I was told about the change and if she had tried I wouldn't have let her in the truck." I chuckled. "I would have loved to have seen that." That caused him to laugh. "How much longer?" I asked. "About another half hour." "Not bad," I said as I looked at the clock. We had been on the road for two hours already. "The drive isn't bad. Figured we could stop at Granbies diner for some food before we get there." "Figured grandma would have food for us there." "She normally does, but grannies sells the best smothered liver and onions I have ever had." "Ew." "You ever have liver and onions?" "No." "Don't knock it till you try it." "You can eat that all you want but I will not touch it." "Don't know what your missing out on." "No thanks." Drew chuckled a little and then said, "still stopping. I always do. They even have a good peach cobbler as well." "Now that, I would love to try. What else is good there?" "They have a decent bread bowl filled with potatoes and pot roast." "I love pot roast. Haven't found one I haven't liked." "You should stop by next time my mom makes one. I haven't had a roast better than hers." "My aunt makes a good one but I've had better." "Now, don't let your aunt hear that." "Wouldn't dream of it." We chatted for the next twenty minutes and soon we were downtown Mystic falls. Drew pulled into a small parking lot and parked the truck. "Let's go, I'm starving." I got out of the truck and as I walked into the restaurant I could hear people chatting and some even looking at me. "Go over to the table over there," Drew said from behind me and I walked towards the direction he was pointing. I sat down and grabbed one of the menus that was between the rack on the side of the table. -Thanks for being patient on the updates.
