The school week passed by very quickly and even though it is Friday night I decided to spend the night in my room working on a project due in two weeks. I had dreams and goals and I couldn't afford to let my grades slip by.
As I was in the middle of my report someone knocked on the door but I ignored them and kept working.
"Hey, honey. You okay?" I heard my uncle say.
I turned my head and looked at him. "Ya. I have been busy working on my assignment."
He smiled at me and that was when I noticed a plate of food. "You missed dinner. Nicole is not happy since the Wolf's were over but I forgive you. Your counselor called and said with your transcripts and current grades you have a four-point oh."
I smiled because I worked hard for that. I gave up having a teen life for good grades because my goal in life was to become a Doctor. Not just any doctor but an emergency room doctor.
"I know. She called me down to talk about the career path I wanted."
My uncle came into the room and set the plate of food on the side table next to my bed then sat on my bed. "And what is your career path?" He asked.
"I want to be a doctor. More specifically a trauma doctor."
"Big goals."
"They are but I have the drive to do it. Mom and dad knew what I wanted to be and they gave me all the resources they could to help further my education."
My uncle looked away at the mention of my parents. "I know. They were proud of you and all your accomplishments. I am proud of you and so is your aunt. I know she can be harsh at times but the gossip really gets to her."
"I understand but she should have thick skin by now and be immune to it."
This caused him to laugh and once he was done he said, "I think you have thicker skin than her."
"Sad but true."
"Well keep up the hard work and don't forget tomorrow you will be working in the stalls."
"What time?"
"Let's say six. We will work you up to a rancher schedule."
I laughed and said, "Sounds good. I really want to get this done."
"When is it due?"
"Two weeks."
"You have time."
"Yes and no. You see if I get it done then I have time to ponder on what I have done and what ways I can make it better. I have time to change things around and be one hundred percent positive I gave the best assignment I could do."
"You are a smart one."
MY uncle stood up and came over to me. He placed a kiss on my head and walked out of the room closing the door behind him.
I worked until Mia came into the room for bed. As she got dressed she said, "One day I am going to marry one of the wolf boys." And she plopped onto her bed.
"And why do you say that?" I asked as I saved my project and turned the computer off.
"It's destiny. We have grown up together and it is just natural."
I rolled my eyes and didn't bother to respond. I got into bed and tuned Mia out as she talked about hooking up with Markus or Drew.
Brody woke me up at five-thirty and I struggled to get up. I am not a morning person and hated being up to early. I wanted to sleep but I agreed to work in the stalls. I walked downstairs and there was everyone at the table eating.
"Hurry up and eat," My uncle said and then took a sip of his coffee.
I grabbed some scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon and quickly ate.
As I finished eating my uncle said, "Brody and Blake I want you both to work with Paul today. Mia, you need to help your mom, and Sheryl your with me."
Everyone acknowledged him and got up from the table. I walked over to the front door and put my sneakers and coat on. I walked to the back door where my uncle was standing and said, "Ready."
He looked at me and smiled. "Do you have boots?"
"No, why?"
"Go ask your aunt for a pair of her boots. You don't want to ruin your shoes."
"Okay."
"Meet me by the barn when you're ready," HE said as he walked out the door.
I found my aunt in the dining room cleaning the table with Mia.
"Um, Aunt Nicole do you have boots I can wear?"
She stopped what she was doing and looked at me. "Of course. Come with me."
After getting a pair of boots from my aunt I walked to the red barn not too far from the house. As I walked into the barn my uncle was petting a horse and feeding it carrots.
"This is Daisy," He said as he looked at me.
"Hello, Daisy."
After my uncle showed me how to approach the horse and set up a clean stall for her I helped him lead her to the fresh stall and then he showed me how to clean it. While we cleaned the stall together Drew walked into the barn.
"Hey Dave, Sheryl," He said as he walked in.
"Hey, Drew. What can I do for you?"
"My tractor broke and I was wondering if you had any spare parts or if we could borrow yours until the parts come in."
"What is wrong with yours?"
As the two of them started talking about tractor parts I kept cleaning out the stall. I like the horses but I hated cleaning out the stalls. They stunk and a lot of work.
As I was pushing some of the crap out of the way I slipped and fell into it causing the two men to laugh. I looked at them and said, "I HATE THIS." And got up.
I started to walk away when my uncle said, "Get changed and come back here. We are not done here."
I let out a growl and they started to laugh.
