They run with the rogues on their tails. Still, they paid no mind to them, advancing with every bit of strength that they had left. The rain had started to fall heavily. Due could feel a wet patch of blood on her underbelly. The pain that her body ignored during her fight, suddenly registered. There were four deep claw marks on her underbelly that kept leaking blood. She was getting dizzy but they dashed, trying to outrun and lose the rogues on their trails. They run for nearly an hour before losing the rogues. The rogues had also suffered significant injuries, so they couldn’t follow them. For which she was glad.
The rain obstructed her sight but she still saw a cave ahead of her. She slowly approached the cave, sensing no other being in it. She and her packmates went deeper into the cave, taking shelter from the rain in it.
They all slumped down on the cold floor as soon as they entered. Due laid on her paws at a corner of the cave still in wolf form. The rain was unrelenting and so was the wind. Their beast forms were the only way they could fight the cold so none sifted back. No one was severely injured. And werewolves had strong bodies and good vitality so losing a bit of blood wouldn’t kill them.
Her packmates laid together to share a bit of body heat. Two brown wolves walked towards her; they were Tyler and Ashina. They lay on her side each. Sharing their warmth. Due’s mind was running with so many thoughts. The neutral lands were usually safe. There were the occasional rogue packs that try to settle there. But they had five to six members at most. So that was the biggest rogue pack she had seen.
And then there was the rogue she fought. It went without saying that it wasn’t trying to kill her. She got away with her life. If it wanted her dead, she’d have been dead. Due was no weak woman. She was one of the strongest in her pack. And she was the fastest in her pack. She knew that there were always those who were stronger than her. That was why she trained like crazy.
Still, there were some things that she couldn’t just overcome. Her physic made it difficult for her to gain more muscles but she was exceptional when it came to speed.
Like how Tyler was strong but lacked speed and how Ash had a bit of both. Due’s mind pondered on how such a big rogue pack had been staying in the neutral lands without any pack knowing. There were four packs there. Reika pack, which was her pack. They lived right below the mountain range. Their pack was like a small town. A few humans were present. But they were only a handful. They weren’t part of the pack and they didn’t know of their kind, but they were part of the town. They had around five thousand people with only 445 humans there. They were mostly tourists and didn’t stay for long periods.
Then there was the Fenrir pack. They had about 3700 pack members. All the packs functioned like a small town. It was only a few years ago that Fenrir fought and took control of RabidCrest pack, making it the second largest pack. The two packs used to be the smallest.
The third pack was the Skol Pack. Due didn’t know much about that pack. Only that the Alpha and Luna were her parent’s friends and that they both died in a rogue attack. It was the third largest pack with about 3560 members. That was only an estimation since she didn’t know much. But Skol pack almost cut itself off from other packs. But she knew that, unlike the other packs, Skol never let any humans in.
Then there was the last pack, the Storm pack. It was the smallest pack with about 1000 members.
Reika was the only pack right under the mountain. The other packs were in the woods. Small towns in the woods. But they were each a significant distance from the other. Then there were the neutral lands. It was the land in the middle of all the packs. It was also more of a hunting ground. But Skol was the closest to it along with Reika. So it also served as a border between those two packs.
With all these packs around, Due couldn’t understand how a rogue pack was left to grow to that extent right under their noses.
‘I have to tell Dad when I get back.’
Those were the last thoughts she had before darkness enveloped her senses.
A few miles away from the group, A tall man walked through the rain with a black raincoat on. He wore a hoodie under it that covered his hair. Lyall stopped in between his journey, the remnants of a fight surrounded him. The scent of blood was still fresh, letting him know that the fight happened not too long ago. There were pieces of fur and flesh scattered with blood spattered everywhere. A few bodies lay around.
Rogues.
He thought with a solemn look on when the stench of the bodies crept into his nose. Some trees were broken from the impact. He thought to throw the rogue bodies away from sight, but decided against it and left them there for wild animals to feast on.
He lifted his nose, sniffing the air. He caught a couple of scents mixed together, then followed it. Tyler had a peculiarly sensitive nose that even the rain couldn’t hide the scents from him. At least not so soon.
He took a snack from his backpack and continued on his way whilst eating, not minding the rain that tried to wet him but only managed to wet his shoes and some parts of his pants.
The rain wasn’t ideal at that time but he still ventured on. Following the scents through the woods. It took a few hours for him to see a cave ahead of him. He didn’t mind the rain but even he needed to find shelter with how hard it was raining.
A deep growl stopped him at the entrance of the cage. A brown wolf stood at the entry, baring his teeth at him threateningly along with the few wolves behind him.
Lyall recognized their scents as the ones he had followed there.
The growl snapped him back from his thoughts.
“I just want to take shelter from the rain.” He explained with his hands raised, trying to show that he meant no harm. The werewolves had already sensed that he was like them, but that was no reason to trust him, especially with everyone wounded and tired from the battle.
Tyler growled at him, hinting at his distrust.
‘This is troublesome’ Lyall thought with a frown. He was getting wet and he just wanted to get out of the rain.
“I can’t do anything even if I wanted to. Besides, aren’t I completely outnumbered.” Lyall tried to reason when Ty still continued to growl with distrust.
Lyall could see from their state, how badly wounded they were. Their furs were matted with blood. He knew right away that they were the ones who were fighting the rogues he saw on the way. If he couldn’t convince them that he was harmless then he’d simply have to show that he was useful.
“Look…” He sighed. “I’m Lyall. I really just want to rest. I’ve been traveling for a while now and the rain is not in my favor as of now.” He said but only received growls. He wondered how someone could be so stubborn.
“Besides, I’m a healer. I can help treat your wounds. I may not know a lot, but I have medications and I can help treat all your wounds…. If you let me stay till the rain seizes.” He offered.
The wolf stopped growling but tilted his head. And Lyall could see the disbelief written on his beastly face. He didn’t blame him either.. he knew he didn’t look like a healer.
“I’m not telling lies. Just let me treat you then share the cave until it stops raining.” He prompted.
Lyall didn’t look like a healer and he was very much aware of it. His defined muscles could be seen even from under the huge hoodie he was wearing. Healers are usually small in stature. But Lyall was six feet and a few inches with toned muscles and sharp features that made him look anything like a healer.
Lyall watched the wolf shift in front of him. He was a brown-haired man as tall as he was. He stood up naked with scratch marks scattered on his body and bits of his flesh gone.
“Fine,” Tyler growled. “But one wrong move and you lose your head."
