“We’re talking of a man’s wife?” asked Huffer innocently.
“We’re talking of a man’s mistress,” said Shyne definitely, “who may have fled to collude with the enemy. Can you show us the skulls please?”
After a few more seconds staring at Shyne, Huffer moved closer to address him. “Come with me,” said Huffer. “I’ll tell you my predicament.” He began walking towards the spot-lit area and the features of the men and women of the guard came to better focus. Huffer then turned and Sabienn saw he was a young man, clean-shaven with long dark hair but his military fatigues were dirty and marked. He didn’t seem to fit Sabienn’s idea of Deerland officer material. “Basically everything you said to me is not true,” said Huffer firmly.
