Hat Trick Overtime: Summer Camp by Jeff Adams-6

One of our campers turned eighteen, and, as usual, there was to be a celebration. We allowed our guys to decide how birthdays would be celebrated. They initially wanted to do it at the fire pit, but it’d become drizzly after dinner so we decided on the boathouse instead. I was headed down there to set up the cake Nancy made and hang the birthday banner I’d used for Alex’s birthday. Once that was done, I’d text Alex so he could come down with everyone else. Alex’s birthday had been the first of the session. After that, Nancy started making cakes for whoever had a birthday. She was up to four cakes now and there were at least three others that I knew of yet to come. She left it up to the cabin coaches to decide how they’d be presented. As I rounded the bend, approaching the boathouse, Ralph, one of the coaches in cabin six, was coming from there. He was rubbing his right fist, and was clearly pissed. “Hey, man,” I said as he got closer. “You okay?” “Yeah,” he said, fury coming through. “Everything’s fine.” He didn’t stop walking. “You shouldn’t go in there right now. Just give it a few minutes.” He moved fast to ensure I couldn’t ask any follow up questions. There was only one person that could cause this sort of reaction. Sergei. With evening free time activities in full swing, the boathouse seemed an odd place for Sergei to try a hookup. This craziness needed to stop. I pulled out my phone and, since my left hand was full, I texted with my right thumb to tell Alex to hang tight with the guys. I needed to make sure it was okay to bring them. Of the scenes I’d braced myself for entering the boathouse, Sergei struggling to pick himself up from the floor, with his shorts around his ankles, wasn’t one of them. I quickly set the cake and banner down on one of the plyo boxes and went to him. “You okay, man?” I pulled him up, and let him hold on to me while he steadied himself. He had cuts on his left cheek and his nose was bloody. “You must love this,” Sergei said, sarcastically, as he took his weight off me and pulled up his shorts. “Looks like I picked the wrong person to play with.” I shook my head in disbelief. “I’m stunned,” I said, “There’re campers everywhere this time of day. We scheduled a birthday party here. Your lucky I didn’t have everybody with me.” “Doesn’t matter now. I’m sure Ralph’s gonna report me.” I went to get the first aid kit from the small storage closet. “I thought he’d been flirting with me the past couple days, so I followed him down here since I had some time.” “We’re so close to the end of the session and you keep pushing,” I said. “What’s wrong with you?” I handed him some tissue so he could put pressure on his nose. He snatched the tissues out of my hand and clamped them on his nose. I went into first aid mode and pulled on a pair of latex gloves that were in the kit. Then I soaked some gauze with peroxide to clean the cuts. “Fuckin’ horny, man,” he said as he looked at me. “What are you? A nurse?” “Somebody’s got to clean you up enough so you can get back to your cabin with as few questions as possible.” “And here I thought you hated me,” he said, trying to sound sexy. “Really?” I stopped cleaning and looked at him. “I’m trying to help you and you’re pulling this s**t again?” “Come on, everybody screws around sometimes.” “No, not everybody.” “Fuckin’ prude,” he said only slightly under his breath. “There’s a time and place,” I said, now working on the cut along the top of his nose. “This is where we work and we’re on duty twenty-four, seven. There are kids here. You’d be in so much trouble if one of them caught you. Is that what you want?” “So what. I’ve been caught other places. Usually it just means more people gettin’ off with me.” I finished wiping the blood off his face and I put a small bandage on his cheek. He pulled the tissue from his nose and it seemed the bleeding had stopped. “Why do you care?” he asked without missing a beat. “I don’t, as long as you don’t involve me or Alex, or try to mess with any of the campers. What you do with your d**k is your business.” I tossed the bloody gauze into the trash and started to tidy up the kit so I could put it away. “Thank you,” he said, confidently, grabbing at his crotch one more time. I shook my head. “You’re impossible.” “You only say that because what I do doesn’t match up with what you think people should do.” He wasn’t wrong about that. “I don’t care that you’re trying to get off with everyone. Find someone that’s interested, I say go for it. I don’t like the way you’re unrelenting. You don’t take no for an answer, and it pisses people off. And, yeah, I am judging you for that.” “You’re right on one point, though.” Suddenly he sounded earnest and it threw me off. “I wasn’t considering we’re on duty all the time. I’ll be more careful about when and where I make a move.” I stashed the kit where it belonged and started arranging the boxes into a makeshift table. “So maybe we won’t meet like this again before we go home?” I said as I texted Alex so the guys could start coming down. “Only if you want to. The shower’s great after lights out.” He flashed me a snarky grin. I glared at him and he raised his hands in surrender. “Okay, fine. I get the message.” He headed towards the exit. “Thanks for the help.” He gestured to his face. “Hope your guys have a good party.” He was gone before I could say anything else. Alex and Leo weren’t going to believe what had happened.
