“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the view.” Alexander laughed as he leaned across the door frame. “Your tears excite me.”
Rose slowly moved away from Stephan’s chest and stood up. She was feeling a lot better than what she had before and could finally feel her legs again. She wiped away her tears but unfortunately for her, no matter how much she wiped, her tears wouldn’t stop.
Giving up, she glared up at the monster standing in front on her. How can a person be so cruel and so disgusting? How can a person with a beating heart be so merciless?
“I’m glad you like them,” she sarcastically breathed out as she pointed to her tears. “I suggest you look at them well and carefully. Because after this you will never, ever have the satisfaction of seeing them again. This will be the first and last time you’ll be seeing these.” She promised as she stared him straight in the eyes. She would make sure that she would never let him see her tears again. Even if it killed her, she would never let him have the satisfaction of knowing that he made her cry. Never.
Feeling satisfied with herself, she pushed passed him and limped out of the infirmary.
Alexander’s laugh echoed throughout the quiet hall; following her all the way out of the building.
The sounds of water flowing and birds chirping made Julian feel like he was in complete and utter bliss. He felt like he was flying on top of the clouds as he sat with his legs crossed atop of the waterfall. The loud roaring sound of the water making contact with the river below gave Julian life. He summoned his inner pet as he slowly opened his eyes. His heart fluttered as the alluring white dove appeared before him.
“Am I doing the right thing by sending the two away?” He asked, getting right into it.
“You’ve never made a wrong decision before.” The dove gently cooed. Her voice calmed Julian down into oblivion. “Although you may feel regretful now, you will feel happy with your decision in the future.”
Julian nodded. “But what if in the end everything goes in the opposite direction and they do end up killing one another?”
This was one of Julian’s biggest worries. He had blocked his son’s powers and threatened to banish him if he laid a finger on Rose. He knew that his son would abide by the rules, as banishment was one of his worst nightmares. However Rose was a different story. She had nothing to lose. He knew that his son wasn’t an easy target, but he had also witnessed Rose’s strength himself. If her anger got in the way, she’d be able to kill her opponent in a second.
“Everything happens for a reason.” She reminded Julian. “Trust them.”
Julian smiled at his pet. She was right. In the end, no matter what happened it would be for the best. He just hoped things would go in a way he preferred rather than the opposite.
Rose watched as the maid quickly threw all her belongings in a large red suitcase. She didn’t know what was happening, but she was praying that the King had realized how much she hated her husband and therefore was sending her back home to her parents.
Her eyes brimmed with tears as the thought of her parents came to mind. The last time she had seen them had been the day she was first told of her marriage to the Prince. She was told that if she had agreed to the proposal, her parents would be forgiven and sent back to their pack. Their pack members thought they were on vacation as a family and so once they returned, things would resume the same way it had in the past. They hadn’t attended her wedding and so she didn’t even know if the King had kept his promise in letting them free. All she knew was that she really missed them.
“Excuse me,” she called out to the maid, “may I ask why you’re packing for me?”
The maid smiled as she zipped up the suitcase. “I’m packing for your honeymoon, Princess.”
There were two problems with the young girl’s sentence that caught Rose off guard.
First, honeymoon? What honeymoon? Who with? Her husband? She wanted to laugh at that. Was the King determined to have them kill each other? This seemed like the craziest idea out and so she took it with a grain of salt. The honeymoon must have been an excuse to hide the truth from the palace workers.
The second was the young maid’s use of the term “Princess”. Rose wasn’t a princess and she never wanted to be one. The fact that she was now legally the Prince’s princess made her stomach churn in disgust. She’d rather be a rogue than be the Princess of this palace.
“Are you crazy?” Stephan asked his father. Although his voice wasn’t raised, the underlying anger in his voice was so powerful that it caught Julian off guard. In the past few days he had seen sides to his son he never knew had existed.
“Not that I know of.” Julian answered.
Stephan let out an exasperated sigh and raked his hand through his hair.
“It would’ve made more sense if you had agreed. Now you sound even crazier.”
Julian smiled at his son, irritating Stephan even more.
“I mean, how can you send them away to a secluded little cottage in the middle of nowhere? And alone to top it all off!”
“I know what I’m doing, Stephan. Just trust me.”
“Trust you? How do you expect me to trust you when you’re acting like a crazy man? They want to kill each other and you’re sending them away. Do you really think that they’ll come back alive?”
“Just trust me,” Julian repeated.
Stephan felt like he was talking to a brick wall. He groaned as he left his father’s office. He was scared for both his brother and Rose. He just hoped that they both came back alive. It was all he wanted.
Rose felt the blood in her body drain as she heard the King speak. Turns out that the maid’s words were true. She was being sent away to a secluded place, alone with the Prince. To make matters worse, they weren’t allowed to return until she was pregnant.
She closed her eyes and took deep and long breaths. She was currently in the King’s office listening to him speak animatedly about all the events that he had prepared for her and the Prince on their “honeymoon”. She was glad that the Prince wasn’t around because she wouldn’t be able to keep calm with him around. Things just couldn’t get worse than this.
“Why are you still here?” Julian asked, interrupting her thought process. “The car is waiting. Hurry up and leave!”
Rose just stared at the King as she continued to stand in her place – refusing to move a single step. Well that was until Edward pulled her out of the room and towards the car.
