Chapter nine: Alexander’s POV

2027 Words
I was looking at the sky, trying to figure out what to do with my mate. Ares has tried to make me feel better, but I couldn’t forget the disgust in her eyes when she saw me. She was the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen, and I was going to lose her. “I’m so sorry you have to be paired with me, Ares. You deserve a mate, and it seems that I’m cursed.” The irony was that I once told Ivy that I didn’t want a cursed mate, but she found love while I didn’t. Is this the way the Moon Goddess is getting revenge on me because I rejected her first gift? If it was, then I learned my lesson. It hurts like hell that your mate doesn’t want you. “Our mother is not like that, Alex. I get that you are mad, but we shouldn’t have left mate alone.” Ares protested. I knew that. I knew it was a bad idea to leave, but I couldn't bear seeing her face while she told me to stay away. The look that she gave me… I couldn’t take it. “I don’t want to be mean to you because you have changed, and I can see that it hurts you.” Ares started again. “But you already lost one mate because you didn’t listen to me, and I will not stand by this time to see you commit the same mistake. Man up, go to your room, and speak properly, or else I will fight you to control your body.” He finished ranting. What he said was true. I didn’t listen to him the first time, and in the end, it was the worst decision that I could make. I had to go back inside and face my mate. I had to ask her why she hated me. I don’t think that everyone knows what happened with Bianca and Ivy, so why is she so against on being my mate? My internal debate was suddenly interrupted by Chase, who didn’t look happy when he saw me. “What the f**k, man!” He yelled at me. For a second, I had the urge to growl back, but I controlled it. I knew where he was coming from. “I’m coming back; I just needed a second to think. I-I didn’t like what I saw in her eyes.” Chase's anger diminished, meaning that he saw the same thing I did when I entered the room. “Do you know why she hates me?” He sat next to me. “I know I found her in a dungeon, and she is pretty roughed up. Esmeralda is the only one that she lets in.” He sighed. A dungeon? Why was she in a dungeon? She didn’t look like a criminal at all. In fact, she looked like she was the most innocent and careful woman in the world. “How is she?” Chase looked at me like I was speaking to him in Chinese. “What?” “Did you see her?” He asked me. I mean… I did and didn’t notice anything strange. Was there something wrong with her? “I did, but I was distracted by her beauty,” I said shyly. I don’t think Chase understands how the mate bond works yet. “Did I have to notice something?” I asked, now worried. “If they did something to mate, we have to kill them.” I agree. I won’t stop you. “I’m glad you think that way because you wouldn’t stand a chance against me.” I know Big Wolf. “She has uhmm… certain marks.” I felt anger grow inside me. “What kind of marks?” I asked, my voice laced with Ares’. “It is better if you see them with your own eyes.” my anger was not getting any better; it was getting worse by the second. I tried to recall our first encounter, but I didn’t notice anything wrong with her. I focused on her angelic face, those big blue, glowing eyes that were so peculiar to me, her white hair that mimics the snow, and those plump, rosy lips. She looks like a princess from a fairytale. She was perfect, and if someone dared to touch a single hair from her head, I was going to kill them. “Can’t you prepare me for what I’m about to see? I don’t want to lose my s**t if I see her hurt. I don’t want to scare her further.” Chase sighed. It was clear that my mate wasn’t in the best shape. What did they do to her? “She is… bruised in some places; I could see some cuts too. I don’t think they gave her much food while she was in there.” My poor mate, she was treated so badly. Unfortunately, that was the way my pack treated Ivy as well. It looks like the Moon Goddess is teaching me a lesson. “Also, she has some sort of trauma; she doesn’t want any of us to be near her.” What? I felt a powerful growl erupt from my chest. If I think what I think it is, I don’t know how much time I would be able to control myself. “Calm down, you are going to tell everyone our location!” Chase shushed me. “You know what possible trauma she has! Would you be able to control yourself if that was your mate?” I asked him. Now I get why Kaid was furious when he first met me. But, I never, and I mean never, forced anyone to have s*x with me. It disgusts me. “I know, and I can’t answer you that, but I can tell you that I have had to control my alpha several times so he doesn’t kill the people in your pack.” I took deep breaths to calm myself. Now was not the time to lose control. I had to be there for her, and then I would think about what I was going to do. Also, I needed Kaid’s permission or whoever was above this alpha’s head to kill him. I had a strong case; they had mistreated my mate, and now I had to understand why they did it. Not that it justified any of their actions, but because I had to build a case against them. “Okay, I’ve calm down, let’s go back.” Chase nodded and followed me inside the house. The music can still be heard, so I guess everyone is still having fun. A pack that mistreats its members is having fun. “We should visit the alpha just to tell them how beautiful their pack is.” Ares, I know you want to kill him too; you know how much self-control it is taking me not to do it. “Then don’t fight it. We can go down and rip his heart out.” As much as I would love to do that, she is still a part of this pack, and if we do anything that could complicate her leaving this place. We are not Kaid, and even he, as king, had to take several precautions. “Then we are not going to have revenge? You want them to get away with what they did?” No, I’m not telling you that. I want to be with our mate and try to calm her down to accept the bond. You know what probably happened to her, and she is going to need a lot of help. Probably from Ivy as well. Ares whimpered in my head. “I want to protect, mate.” And we will, buddy, let me take things step by step to ensure her safety: Ares didn’t say anything further, so I guess he is going to take his time to process everything as well. Chase and I were now standing in front of my room. Joseph is standing in front of the door. He is scrolling through his phone so no one finds it suspicious. “Alpha, Chase.” He greeted us. “Is she okay?” I asked him. “She asked to be left alone with Esmeralda. She doesn’t want Chase or I to be in the room.” Was it because we are men? I know that victims sometimes have a hard time around the gender of the person who abused them. I had seen it several times with my father’s victims. They were terrified of seeing men, or anyone for that matter. “I’m going in. If she doesn’t want us there, I think I will ask for another room, or we will have to go to a hotel.” I told them. Chase understood, but Joseph didn’t. “We can’t leave her alone here, alpha. I know Miss Esmeralda is strong, but will she be able to protect her?” He asked me. “You don’t know much about witches, and to be honest, neither do I, but I can tell you that if they try to go against Esmeralda, they are going to get their asses burned.” Chase chucked at my remark, making Joseph give him a deadly stare. “Don’t get mad, man, but not even my alpha wants to be on her wrong side. She kicked his but one time.” She did? Damn! “Well, now that it is clear that she can protect her and my mate well, I’m going in. Tell me if something goes wrong, okay?” I grabbed Joseph’s shoulder. “Thank you, man.” “No worries, alpha.” I let him go and now faced the door. My mate was on the other side. I had an idea of what to expect, so I reminded Ares to stay calm. I took a deep breath and opened the door. My mate was sitting on the bed while Esmeralda stood in front of her. She was careful not to be too close; I guess that my mate is frightened of getting touched. “Hello,” I said in a whisper while I closed the door. I approached them slowly, although it was hard for me not to run next to her. Her scent was intoxicating, but beneath it, I could also smell her fear. I think she was shivering as well. “Could I speak with you for a moment?” I asked her while I scrunched down to be at her level. “Kailee, he is not going to hurt you. I promise.” So her name is Kaylee, such a wonderful name for my magnificent mate. Kailee lifted her face to look at Esmeralda. She was scared of being left alone with me, and even if I didn’t like the idea of discussing my matters with an audience, if she felt safe with Esmeralda, I would ask her to stay. “Esmeralda, could you stay? I want Kailee to be comfortable when we speak.” Esmeralda nodded at me and gave me a look I couldn’t decipher. I looked back at my mate; she seemed so fragile and scared. Someone had done significant damage to her, and it showed. “Kailee, I would like to introduce myself. I’m Alexander Dymond, alpha of Blue Lake Pack. I came here with my beta and a friend on a special mission, and I’m glad I did.” I smiled at her. I didn’t know what else to say. f**k. “You a-are an a-a-alpha?” She asked. Is she nervous? Why is she stuttering? “Yes, and you are my mate.” She didn’t look surprised when I told her that, which meant that she knew we were mates. I heard her mutter something under her breath like, ‘But you are a wolf.’ that didn’t make sense to me, but before I could ask her anything else, she said to me. “I, Kailee Polaris, reject you, Alexander Dymond as my mate.”
