Loneliness, my day-to-day life, can only be described as complete and absolute loneliness. Every day, I wake up, and it is the same as any other day. I work, try to make amends to people I have wronged, have different reunions with Alphas to help my pack, and then I sleep.
I lost everything, and I don’t mean recently, but since the moment I chose to damage the bond given by the Moon Goddess. I decided to hurt my fated mate, I chose to date her sister, and finally, I decided to reject her.
Well, the last part isn’t entirely true. I wanted to reject her, but she was the one who did it in the end. I can’t blame her; she has a good reason for it. I was an asshole; I mistreated her. A mate is the person that you should worship, who is supposed to be your other half, the person who is going to complement you. And what did I do? f**k that up.
I took the gift the Moon Goddess gave me and didn't cherish it.
Ares, my wolf, was furious. He stopped talking to me for years. The only time that he appeared was when my life was in danger, otherwise he ignored me. I had trouble turning into him, so people haven’t seen my wolf much.
Now, we are in a better place. He was still hurt that he lost our mate, mainly because I wanted to reject her because she was weak, and she sure as hell proved me wrong.
She was now queen and had a pup, Killian. I have met him a few times. The king and I weren’t exactly friends, but he had helped me out to restore my pack.
I changed a lot, but it was too late. Now, I had to live with the consequences of my actions. My new beta, Joseph, was of great help. He was chosen with Ivy's help, as she had some kind of power or intuition to notice when someone was lying. I also made him take numerous tests to see if he was the correct person for the position. That was one law that I changed in my pack. Now, everyone who wanted to be part of the high-ranking wolves needed to prove themselves worthy, and yes, that applied to me as well.
Fortunately, not many people challenged me for my position, but the ones that did lost. Still, I noticed that I needed more training as an alpha, so I went back to the basics. I went back to training camp. To see an almost thirty-year-old man with alphas who were teenagers was kind of pathetic for me, but I had to do it. I learned a lot and came back to continue my duty.
The king made fun of me several times, but in the end, he told me that it was a great decision and that he was just messing with me. After all, I was grateful for his help; he helped me clear my pack's debt.
Also, my father was facing numerous charges. He had committed too many crimes to be left without a punishment, and I was helping Kaid and Ivy with that as well. Why? Because when I investigated him, I noticed links with werewolf trafficking, deviation of funds, mistreatment of several pack members, and even murder. He has been convicted, but now we have to find all the wolves that he trafficked. I had to give back all the money he took for this "business," the part of the pack members had been issued with.
I gave a public speech and told everyone to treat members fairly. I also issued an apology to everyone who may have been treated poorly. The murder part was hard because he had killed several omegas who he had s*x with to shut their mouths.
I knew I wasn't the best, but my father was a monster, and he was right where he belonged.
It had been a long journey, but I could finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. Now, I was only missing a Luna, but I still felt I needed to grow more to be ready for one. I hoped that the Moon Goddess would decide to give me a second chance mate, but considering how I treated my first one, I highly doubted it.
If you reject your mate, it is rare that the Moon Goddess will give you another. I may not have rejected Ivy, but I mistreated her, which is the same thing in the end.
"Don't be so pessimistic; Ivy has told you to keep hope." Ares tried to lift my spirits up, but I still felt lonely, and now, to make everything worse, Kaid wanted me to go to Alaska to go to another pack to investigate them. On top of that, I would go as the mate-less alfa, meaning all the she-wolves would probably be after me.
I don't want to seem like someone who thought he was the best in the world, but the problem was that if you are an alpha, many she-wolves are going to be after you. I had already learned from my experience with Bianca and knew I had to find a mate I loved and cherished, but I wanted her also to love me. I would love to have Ivy's ability, but I didn't, and I had to do things the old way, meaning that I had to trust my instincts. Now I took Ares advice, he had better intuition than I did.
"As you should."
Either way, I was not going to this event to get a mate; I was going to help Ivy and Kaid with the clue that they had.
I was waiting for his call to finish up some details for the plan. They had investigated this pack for a long time but still lacked some information, and I had to infiltrate to find that out. Joseph would come with me to help me with the mission. Only wolves without mates could go, so Kaid was out of the picture. Instead, they were going to send Chase. He was a human who was turned into a wolf by a maniac, the same one who kidnapped Ivy. He had become a great warrior, and even if he wasn't part of my pack, I was more than glad to welcome him.
Finally, my phone rang, and I knew it was Kaid, so I called Joseph to my office.
"Hello, your majesty." I heard a huff at the other end of the line. Kaid detested that people called him majesty, but that was what he was, and I had to show some respect.
"Hello, Alpha Alexander. Is your beta with you?" Joseph came into the office at that moment. I have to say, he was efficient.
"Yes, he is, so what else do you want to discuss?" I said.
I heard Ivy's, and my heart skipped a beat. After all these years, she still had some effect on me.
"Ivy is here with me to explain everything to you. We have more useful information, and Chase will come to your pack tomorrow. Esmeralda will teleport him." They told us that the warrior they had brought the last time wasn't a warrior at all; she was, in fact, a very powerful witch.
"Okay, just tell us the location where he is going to appear so I can make the arrangements." After that, they told me more information about why they needed me to go there in the first place. Apparently, when Bianca died, she told Ivy that she had other enemies in the north, and with that warning, they started looking for any suspicious activity there. Of course, they found it, as they noticed that werewolves had gone missing in that area, that people seemed to appear out of nowhere, and that there was a report of a "disease" spreading.
Apparently, it made wolves very sick, something unusual for us, to the point where some of them died. Great, they were sending me to a death trap.
"And you are sending me there where they could put that virus on me and kill me? Are you sure you have forgiven me?" I heard Ivy chuckle. I probably sounded paranoid, but I didn't want to die in a place where no one knew me.
"No, silly, Esmeralda and I- her mate have already found a cure. We are going to send it with Chase, so if you start feeling sick, you need to drink it immediately." That was a good backup plan, but I didn't know that Esmeralda's mate had knowledge of potions, and why did it seem like she wanted to say that she was the one who created the cure with Esmeralda?
"Okay, then I have no more questions." We said our goodbyes and hung up. I had to prepare everything for the trip, pack clothes, and make sure that everything was right for me to leave. My Gamma was going to stay; he was the only one with a mate, so he did not have to come. However, it was the first time he would be in charge.
A new adventure awaited, and I hoped I was prepared for it. I was not going to let Ivy down. It was the least I could do for her.
