Chapter 13

1618 Words
HENRY Beryl has been in the washrooms for too long and Brenda isn't making matters any better since she's insinuating that she might be making out with a random guy in the washroom while I'm worried sick about her. Her words pierce the deepest part of my heart. I know Beryl isn't such kind of a person and Brenda is actually getting into my nerves. Why is she hell-bent on painting a bad picture of Beryl to me? Does she think she can win me over simply by badmouthing her sister? Well, she's in for a rude shock if she thinks that's the case. Infuriated by Brenda's nagging and silly accusations, I leave her in the VIP lounge and head to the washrooms. As I approach the ladies, I hear some fumbling and an incoherent shout and a bad feeling settles in the deepest pit of my stomach. I follow the hallway, praying hard that my Beryl is not in trouble and I panic when I spot the umistakable blonde hair tied in a high ponytail. Beryl is struggling against a man who has her against the wall. I can hear her whimpers and cries. She appears helpless. My blood boils and I pull the son of a b***h off her. I throw a punch after a punch and he falls on the ground. He stands up before I make another move and he limps away throwing unprintable obsenities at me. I point a warning finger at him, warning him never to try that s**t ever again in his life. I mean who in his right mind forces himself on a woman? Can't he approach her like the man he thinks he is and ask her out? When I turn to face Beryl, she's curled on the ground weeping silently. I walk towards her and she flinches away from me. She's scared out of her shiet. I call her softly and I tip her chin up with my index finger. Relief floods in her eyes when she realises it's me but her lip is bleeding. I take out a wet tissue and wipe her lips. I offer her my hand and she gladly takes it and I help her up on her feet. She sighs in relief as she flings herself into my waiting arms. Her head is nuzzled in my neck and I can feel the wetness of her tears soaking my shirt. I call one of my guys and order him to drive the car to the back. I pick her clutch which is on the floor and fling her up, carrying her bridal style towards the car. Her grip on my neck tightens when I make her sit at the passenger seat of my car. Her grip is warm and comforting. I wish we can stay like this forever. I assure her that she's safe and she let's go of my neck after nodding. The ordeal in the washrooms has left her shaken and traumatised to the core. I shut the door and pull up my phone from my pants pocket to call Blake. “Dude, where did you go with Beryl?” his voice isn't clear as the loud music is still playing. “Are you trying to lay my kid sister?” he asks and I can feel despair in his voice. Does he really think I can lure his sister to bed on our first date out? “Calm down man. A guy attacked her in the washrooms but I rescued her.” I explain “Who tried to do that? Where is he?” he's already panicking. “Calm down man. She's in my car and she's safe!” I tell him and I hear a heavy sigh of relief after assuring him. “Great. Just drive her home. I'll send you the gate's code. Brenda and I will meet you there!” I can feel the relief in his voice and I'm glad he feels that Beryl is safe with me. Beryl is now shivering and I take off my jacket and wrap it around her. Her lip is still bleeding therefore I remove the same wet tissue and hand the entire pack to her. She gladly takes it and wipes the back of her mouth as I ignite the car and drive off. At the gate, I put the code which Blake has send to me and I drive in when the huge gates go apart. I drive down the driveway and park at the front of the house. I climb down and go round to Beryl's side. I open the door for her and she gladly climbs down, clinging onto my shoulders. She bids me goodbye after removing her keys and heads for the door. A maid is at the door and she looks at her in horror. “Ma'am, are you okay?” she asks her. “Yes Camilla. I am okay.” Beryl replies. I'm still standing behind Beryl and the lady greets me cheerfully after hugging Beryl passionately. Soon, a black Sedan practically flies through the driveway. The driver's door is swung open and Blake literary runs towards us and engulfs Beryl into his arms. “Oh cupcake!” he exclaims.“ I'm so sorry! I shouldn't have left you. I shouldn't have forced you to accompany me. Next time I'll have bodyguards around you and you'll have to wear sweats and—” he's bluffing too much and I suddenly realise that he's scared for her. It's evident he can't take it if anything happens to her. “Blake!” Beryl cuts him short.“ I'm fine now and Henry here took care of everything. No need to work yourself up.” she assures him. I can understand how Blake is feeling right now. He really loves and cares about Beryl so much. It's quite understandable since I'd be as protective to my only sister as he is. Beryl is a sweet girl, always jovial and social. I can bet with my life that she has never hurt a fly! I really wonder why Brenda and her parents treat her like trash. Well, it's evident that Brenda is jealous of her, at least she's working while Brenda spends all the money. This girl is really suffering, working her ass out for this family but travelling home in a bus or cab. This is not fair at all! Blake walks towards me and engulfs me in a tight hug. “Thanks lot my friend! I owe you this one.” he says thankfully. It's like he didn't expect his sister to be safe with me and now that I've proved him otherwise, he's exceptionally glad. “It's nothing man, what are friends for?” I assure him. “She was taken advantage of because she's easy.” Brenda coughs behind us. “I bet she wanted it as much as the guy!” she adds. “Who knows, maybe the guy refused to pay and she decided to scream!” “Shut up Brenda, will you?” Blake warns. He's as infuriated as I am. If given a chance right now, I'd squeeze the living daylights out of this shameless slut Brenda. Does she think everything revolves around money? Does she think every other girl is just like her? Loose and carefree? She has just added more reasons as to why I should never look her way whatsoever! “I'll brew you some coffee.” Camilla offers. “It's cold out here.” she concludes and we all agree then we follow her from behind gladly. Upon entering, Beryl thanks me for everything and hands over my jacket to me. “Thanks a lot for everything. I owe you my life.” she says then takes the stairs up to her room. I follow Camilla to the kitchen and help her brew the coffee. After were done, I offer to take the coffee to Beryl and she gives me directions to her room. When I get there, I softly knock her door and she ushers me in. She's busy on her laptop and she murmurs a thank you as I place the cup of coffee on her table. Delightfully, she takes a sip of the coffee and I can't stop checking her out. After I'm done ogling, I bid her goodbye, head downstairs and gladly take my coffee as we chat happily with Blake. “Man, you're lucky!” Blake says. “She doesn't let anybody near her or her bedroom except Andrew, Camilla and I!” I can imagine why so. She probably lives in fear due to maltreatment from the others and she cannot trust her life with them. I don't know where Brenda has disappeared to. Maybe she's in her room or she might have gone back to the night club. With her, nothing is predictible. One moment she's flirting with me, badmouthing Beryl, calling her all sort of names and telling lies about her. With that attitude, I don't see her going far. I bet she still thinks I'll choose her but poor her, I've already made my choice! All that is remaining is for her father to inform her so as to stop raising her hopes so high! We continue catching up as we take our coffee and after were done, I excuse myself and ask Blake to allow me to head to my home. He agrees to my request because he's already sleepy and he walks me out to the parking lot. Minutes later, I'm in my car driving towards my house but still, my mind doesn't seem to let go of thoughts about Beryl. Oh! What a night!
