The anger in Killian’s voice sends another shudder through me. When I look up at him, I see his eyes graze over me as if to make sure I'm fine. Oh, now we care about my well-being? I fight not to sneer at him and feel a little better when he winces.

Killian looks completely distraught and desperate for me to believe him, his eyes jumping back and forth between mine. And I really don't know how to feel. This situation is exactly what I have been scared of. Right now, I can go the easy route, the logical route, and believe what they are saying about my mate. Lean into my fears and just let them be materialized. Or I can do the hard thing and trust.
