Chapter Two Marcus opened the door. ‘Come in,’ he said, and stood aside to let her pass. He took her into his study, sat her down and offered her some green tea. It seemed the most appropriate refreshment for what they had planned. He’d first met Miranda a week ago. She was a tall young woman, about twenty-five, with long dark hair, which today she had twisted into a single plait starting high on the back of her head and falling halfway down her back. It was a severe-looking style wholly in keeping with what she wanted him to do. They talked of this and that for a while as they sipped their tea.
