Chapter Six
Dread pooled in Cody’s gut as he pulled into the medical center parking lot. What had he been thinking, nearly kissing Carolina while she still wore the ring of a dead guy on her left hand? For a blindingly stupid moment, he’d let his d**k call the shots. And who could blame him? Carolina was a warm, vibrant woman. He enjoyed her smart mouth, and the way she made him laugh at surprising intervals. The haunted look in her gold-flecked eyes might chase him through his dreams, but that didn’t mean he should kiss her. Or move things beyond their strictly professional relationship. Hell, if he did that, it would be more than Teddy lined up to exact a pound of flesh. Carolina’s sisters and mother would be next in line, followed by his brother, and of course, Giant Greg.
