GODDAM it, Aya! She cursed herself while her tears continued to fall.
She shouldn't be crying like that. She shouldn't be wasting tears. God! She should stop crying for pete sake. She’s still driving. That would be dangerous for her safety.
Shanaiah roughly wiped away the tears on her cheeks and let out a bitter laugh. She felt so pathetic.
But she couldn't blame herself. Especially after witnessing the betrayal of the man she had loved for years. The image of his naked body, sweating as he thrust into the woman on top of him, flashed in her mind.
The scene played like a nightmare in her head. She felt the stab of pain in her chest again and again. If only she could unsee it. But she couldn't. Because the woman he was with was none other than her sister. The image of them f*****g like rabbits, is still playing in her head. It felt like a f*cking torture. That f*****g b***h!
And she hates herself for using “f*cking” so many times.
The image was clear and detailed in her mind, the way their bodies met, the loud moans they released, a deafening sound that seemed to deafen her. Her throat was raw from screaming in the pain she felt.
Until now, she couldn’t believe it. After all these years of being with him, of being a faithful and a good woman to him. Zandro still cheated on her with her own sister? F*ck him! She did everything for him! She gave everything! She had nothing left for herself. She thought he was the perfect guy. And now that she realized, she was scammed.
She drank the bottle of beer beside her as if it was just mineral water. She roughly wiped her mouth, leaving the bottle half empty. Her sister Celeste, was probably laughing and celebrating by now.
Celeste had finally ruined her life. She had gotten what he wanted. First, he had taken her position as CEO of her father's company. She was certain Celeste had manipulated the situation, as a week after Shanaiah was removed in the position, Celeste was appointed CEO. All of their father's attention was now focused on Celeste while she felt like she had to beg for his attention.
She could imagine Celeste's triumphant grin at that very moment. She had gotten not only the company position, but also Damon.
The image of her mother, Sylvia, popped into her mind. She had run away to her mother after leaving Damon’s condo. But her mother just stared at her as if saying she didn’t care.
She didn't even comfort her, calm her down, or ease her burden—like a mother would do for a child who has broken up. Her heart sank even more when her mother said, "Maybe you did something wrong to your boyfriend for him to do that to you. Go home and rest. It can be resolved with a calm conversation."
A bitter laugh escaped her. What else could she have expected from her?
Her mother doesn’t like her. She always looked at her as if she was her life’s biggest mistake. She should not be surprised. There’s nothing new about that!
No one cares for her. No one would even care if she died today.
God! She hates this life. She was probably the most pathetic woman in the world. She wanted to be strong but she couldn’t. She was losing her reasons to continue living. She felt utterly useless in this world.
Her car was filled with her sobs. She took another bottle of beer, wanting to drink herself into oblivion until she could no longer remember what had happened that day. She longed to pretend that she hadn't witnessed the betrayal of the first man she had ever loved.
Like hell! Even if she drank every last drop from the bottle in her hand, it wouldn't erase the painful truth. It felt like a dagger stabbing her repeatedly. She had nothing. That realization echoed in her mind.
She forced a smile despite her sobs. She has always been kind to people. She was patient, accommodating, and humble. Now, how come she deserves all this pain? She tried to find a reason why this is happening to her? Her life is a mess now.
She pulled over to the side of the road. Her eyes were blurred from crying. If she continued driving like this, she might end up in an accident.
She still wanted to live! Even though she wanted to drown herself in alcohol, a part of her still wanted to survive. Her thoughts were interrupted when her cellphone suddenly rang. Looking at the screen, she saw Damon’s name flashing. She bit her lower lip and then shook her head. Yes, it’s true…she loved him. But after what she saw, there’s no reason to continue her relationship with him. She’s not going back to the man that made her feel so worthless.
She turned off her phone.
She cried again and screamed. Sometimes life is just so unfair. She wrapped her trembling arms around herself, promising that this would be the last time she cried over that man. It would also be the last time the people she loved would trample on her feelings and identity. She was exhausted, whether it was from her mother, father, sister, or Damon.
Once more, she wiped her tears and tried to calm herself for a few moments. Then she started the car again. The rain poured heavily as she drove. She was heading to her cousin's resthouse in Sydney. She planned to stay there for a while to distance herself from the people who had caused her such deep pain and heartache.
Just as she was speeding along, she spotted an elderly woman about to cross the street. Panic surged through her! She couldn't afford to kill an old lady! In her fear, she swerved the car. It was too late for her to realize that she was about to crash into a tree.
She thought she was going to die. She was saying her last words, "Oh my god! "I can't die yet. I haven't gotten my revenge on the people who betrayed and hurt me." She struggled to control the car, but it continued on its path, crashing into the tree. She let out a loud scream and slammed her face against the steering wheel. Thankfully, she wasn’t seriously injured. However, her car was a wreck. She tried to start it, hoping to move it away from the tree, but the engine wouldn't turn over.
She cursed loudly. Was fate really playing games with her? Was the universe punishing her? "You're so f****d up, Aya!" she whispered to herself before getting out of the car. She didn't care about the heavy raindrops pouring down on her. She needed to find out what had happened to her car.
Her lips parted in shock as she noticed that one of the tires had struck a sharp rock.
She slowly sat on the ground, burying her face in her knees. She felt cursed, like misfortune was her constant companion. The rain fell in sync with her tears. She waited for lightning to strike, to complete the punishment that fate had given her. But it never came. Then, she heard footsteps approaching.
"Miss, are you okay?"
