A Twist of events

1652 Words
I ran all the way out of the building, tears blurring my vision. I didn't see this betrayal coming and it broke me. By the time I arrived at Quan's apartment again, it was almost midnight. Quan wasn't home yet and Sampson wasn't there either. I cried for a while before I realized that I was only wasting my tears over a man who only never saw my worth. Fuck him! I cursed out loud, throwing myself into my bed. Soon, I gave way to sleep. The following morning, I woke up with a start to my phone ringing. It vibrated on the bedside table. The memories of the previous night flashed through my mind as soon as my eyes tore open. The more I thought of it, the angrier I became. He didn't deserve me. None of them did! I laid in bed fuming when a thought came to my mind. Quan! Where was he? I didn't get to meet him the previous night. I yawned, rolled over on the bed and hit the blaring alarm on my phone to make it stop ringing. It was 7.AM. I hissed, irritated as I pushed myself out of bed. I was wearing a pair of flowered shorts that stopped a few inches below my ass, revealing my thighs. My night top was a see-through singlet that left almost nothing to the imagination, revealing my large pair of orbs underneath. I stood, fazed in the room, trying to figure out my next line of action. I didn’t know whether I should call Quan to find out if he had made it home the previous night or simply go to the kitchen and make some breakfast for myself. My stomach rumbled and I decided on the latter option. I opened my bedroom door and made my way down the hallway to the staircase. I was about to descend the staircase when my eyes settled on a lady who was just picking up a small handbag from the couch. She swung around and made her way towards the door with slow calculated steps. I stood still, holding my breath. Who was she? I had never seen her before. Quan didn't tell me that a woman lived in his suite, nor did Sampson. Was that his girlfriend? A lump formed in my throat as I realized that he could actually have a partner and there was nothing I could do about it. My hands racked through my messy hair as I watched her adjust her blouse just before she turned on the door knob. I eyed her, realizing how her dress perfectly clung to her banging body. Soon, a knot formed in the pit of my stomach. She opened the door and stepped out. Without thinking, I made my way down to the room I assumed to be Quan's. The door was slightly ajar and I slipped in as quietly as I could, closing the door behind me. The room was sparsely furnished, with only a bed, a dresser, and a few pieces of art on the walls. The bed was unmade, with the sheets rumpled and slightly askew. One person came to my mind. The woman who just left the suite. I bit hard on my lower lip. Was she in here with Quan? The morning sun from the window streamed in, casting a warm glow over the room. The air was still, and the sound of the shower ran from the bathroom. Someone whistled softly from the bathroom and I instantly recognized who it was. That was Quan! He was having a bath, completely unaware that I was now in his room. Heat coursed through me as I ran a finger over one of my n*****s, getting instantly aroused. Curiosity gripped me and before I could stop myself, I tiptoed towards his bathroom door. With a small push, I opened the door and peeped in. I couldn't believe my eyes! Quan was standing under the showerhead, his wet, soapy body glistening in the water. My eyes ran over his body—it was well toned and muscular. My palms started to feel sweaty as my gaze remained fixed on him. My body ached with desire but I forced myself to ignore it. I was wrong! I was so wrong to be peeping at my father's best friend, who was nearly twice my age. I had to get out of there, fast, but my feet remained stuck and my eyes narrowed in, taking up almost every inch of his body. Quan swung his head around in one swift movement and his eyes met mine. Busted! My face flushed with embarrassment and I quickly looked away, but It was too late. Without giving it a thought, I looked back at him, unashamedly. For a moment, we stood there, staring at each other. Then, Quan reached for the towel hanging on the wall and wrapped it around his waist. I could barely breathe. I wanted to run out of the room, but, somehow, my feet were still rooted to the spot. I couldn't move. Finally, Quan spoke. "What are you doing here, Alora?" he asked, shock spread across his face. My mouth opened, but no words came out. I was frozen. Within seconds, my brain started to function again and I swung around to run, but my feet slipped out from under me on the wet tiles. I braced myself for the impact, but it never came. Instead, I found myself being caught in a pair of strong arms. My eyes opened to see Quan looking down at me, concern etched on his face. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice full of worry. Heat rose in my cheeks as I realized I was being held in his arms. His arms! These same arms which I had dreamt of almost every night. I had to pull away, to break free from his grasp, but, rather, my hands clung harder to him. I shut my eyes, feeling the cold water from the showerhead cascade down over both of us, soaking us to the skin. I blinked my eyes open, again. I couldn't believe this! This wasn't one of my silly daydreams. I was actually in Quan's shower, with his large palms just below one of my boobs. My heart pounded in my chest as I met his gaze, our faces only inches apart. There was something in his eyes that I couldn't quite identify. Concern, yes, but there was something else there too. "You're safe," he said. My head bobbed. "Thank you" My words tumbled out in a rush. I stylishly shrugged myself away from his grip, careful enough to step over the wet floor with caution. Then, I fled the room, making it to mine in less than no time. "What the hell just happened?" I cursed underneath my breath as I fell face flat on my bed. An hour later, while I was preparing for my first day of work at Quan's company, images of his hot and well toned body flash through my mind. I got dressed in a hurry and by the time I stormed out of the room and made my way downstairs, ready to meet Quan, I saw him standing in the foyer in a tailored suit. His lips curved up in a smile when his eyes met mine. "I was just about to call out for you." He glanced at the watch on his wrist and firmly responded. I grinned, adjusting the sleeves of my shirt, "Did I keep you waiting?" I asked as I leaned in to give him a brief hug, my body tingling from the contact. I didn't realize how much I missed him until I had hugged him, wrapping my arm around his large frame. The fragrance of his perfume wafted into my nose, setting my senses ablaze. "I'm sorry I wasn't home when you arrived yesterday," he said, "I had an emergency come up." "An emergency, indeed" A voice at the back of my head whispered as I remember the pretty lady who left his suite early that morning while he was in the bathroom. Was that an emergency? I mocked silently under my breath. I brushed it off with a wave of hand. "It's no problem. I understand that things happen." I shuffled my feet, half expecting him to lash out at me for creeping up on him while he was taking a bath. Why wasn't he saying anything? Didn't it make him uncomfortable? I stood, stuck to the same spot as he led the way out of the house. Within minutes, we were in his car. "How's your dad?" He asked me as he pulled the car out of the driveway and joined the traffic. I fumbled with my purse, "Dad is great!" He nodded, casting me a sideways glance, "You will enjoy this city" He said out loud, turning the steering wheels, "I told the team about you. They are all expecting your arrival at the company." Soon he pulled over at the parking lot of his company's building. Just as I made a move to open the door of the car, a strong hand grabbed my wrist. I stiffened. "You've grown into a beautiful young woman." He said, breaking the silence between us. I forced a small smile. "Uh-oh?" I muttered, not knowing the right response. "Alora?" He called out. I shot a glance at him and looked away. "I'm glad you're here." He sighed. I nodded. "I can't wait to see where this leads to” I said with a rush, hoping he would understand the meaning of my words. Then, I pulled out of his grip, opened the door, and jumped out of the car. I meant what I said! I reasoned. I was damn too curious to find out what living in the same apartment with Quan would lead to.
