Watching, the Prince held his breath as the horse bucked, expecting to see Forella crash to the ground. He also knew how easy it was for an inexperienced rider to be unseated by a horse that was bucking. When he saw Forella, still in the saddle, set off in what he knew was a deliberate effort to avoid him, he thought it a miracle. This, however, was a challenge to Jóska that he could not ignore. There was no need for the Prince even to touch him lightly with his whip or to use his spurs. Instead the stallion leapt on forward and there was the thunder of his hoofs as he strained every nerve to show his supremacy by overtaking the horse in front of him.
