Chapter 9: Unpredictable Day!

2056 Words
Sari's POV My days have become hectic. Starting from Ariana to hospital and back to training ground, I feel like a robot: with feelings, that is. I hate mornings now. Absolutely loathe it. Mornings aren’t pleasant anymore especially when Adrian has that big-annoying smile on his face when he wakes me up. Though I waste no time in waking up as it's not going to be helpful to me; I makes sure to grumble and moan to show my utter frustration for the schedule. I heard Adrian chuckle just when I made extra noise while walking towards my bathroom door. He thinks it's amusing when I threw that comforter, whining and didn't open my eyes at all. But now I had to. Just to direct sharp daggers in his direction! Bickering about how cruel the world is, how cruel my husband is, I slammed the door shut behind me while stripping to get showered. As the hot water hit my tensed shoulder, I let out a satisfactory moan. Only this has kept me sane—a freaking warm bath! My mood lightened as I hummed a tune wishing to have some extra moments to spend leisurely. I sighed because that's not possible! At all! Even if my eyes would struggle to keep open, Adrian wouldn't let me off hook and having Ace as my trainer; I better be awake! He doesn't think twice punching my face or ribs. At times, I wonder if Adrian has had change of heart and now trying to kill me with this new excuse. You would think the same when he keeps his lips sealed while Ace hit me like I was a man! That unethical man keeps smirking when I wince in pain but out of habit, I steal glances at Adrian who keeps clenching his fists; bothered by the same. Honestly, it pisses me off! Don't act when you can clearly stop but aren't! His reasons are "Your safety and future" like who in their right mind dare harm me? Mrs. Martin to be accurate! Only if they don't love their lives would they think of hurting me. Whatever! I hate these past two weeks and four days. Ace has done whatever he can to put me through hell. That man didn't hesitate to sabotage me with a knife to check if I was being attentive! Like What!  I really was terrified by then and never let my eyes blink even for a second. That was the day after which Adrian decided to stay on the grounds regardless of any urgent meetings he had. I don’t know though if it was for good or bad as I surely feel nervous and distracted by his presence. It’s as if my eyes want to keep checking him out, his expression to gawk his reaction. I don’t want him to feel disappointed at me but in the end of the day—yeah, you are right! I mess it up returning home with a limp in my leg, swollen face or bruised body. However hard I try to deny the fact but I love the post-training session.  Adrian would never let me hear the end of it but at the same time runs a bath with bombshells, salts and herbs that would help my body’s recovery. He would be too attentive as he personally bathes me, dresses me up. If you ignore his hard-angry and cold face; his touch is totally gentle and tender as if scared to break me. I love it but wear that old-man’s-grumpy-face on as Adrian would massage me with warm oil and cuddles me till sleep engulfs me in its embrace. The moment I stepped inside the hospital, I let out a loud groan which might have been noticed even by the security personnel who was few feet away. His eyes snapped at me but lowered the same moment recognizing me as Mrs. Martin. I slouched through my way there and dragged myself to the office but rejoiced when the receptionist informed that Mr. Martin wouldn’t make it today due to some other business. Yes! Now I can have some alone time. I was ready to throw my sandals off in different direction and slump against that leather chair which belongs to my dear hubby but someone’s evil eye casted upon me. “Uh, actually Mrs. Martin, his regular patients are here and under your care for today; if that’s what they want.” She added apologetically watching my smile wipe off my face and I forced myself to smile at her. She mouthed ‘sorry’ irrespective of doing nothing and I waved my hand in dismissal. Tucking my hair in a tight bun, I fixed my black top and white jeans as I decided to conquer my husband’s chair. It’s only fair, right? To be able to sit on his seat when looking after his patient. The knock at the door made me inhale sharply as the patients lined up, one after the other. *** Three hours later, I must say I was impressed with the cases he was working on. Few patients returned learning that I would be the one available as they said and I quote ‘Mr. Martin is the only one we paid for and came here to.’ It ruined my mood realizing that five out of ten were women! I should ask him to attend males exclusively like he made me done with the other gender. The thought of why the women wanted him ‘only’ and what they might be doing during their treatment to catch his attention was boiling my blood. I decided to take a break and headed to grab a coffee. Tan hasn’t stepped here since that break-up day, if you want to put it that way. It was discouraging to find that he never felt a connection with Molley but I was glad he didn’t stretch it to the point where it might have broken Molley completely. Molley, on the other hand, has been acting weirdly around me. She would throw that disgusted look at me and I shrug at her, inspite of the hurt I feel from that. I try to avoid her—at all cost! Rocky was keeping an eye on me as I informed him I was okay and needed some time for myself. The man respected my order and maintained his distance keeping a hawk-eye on me. Sipping the warm coffee and strolling around for a while, I grabbed a snack and munched on it while I passed the other one to Rocky. He didn’t startle like the first time as he knows my habit now and thanked me before making his way to grab his coffee. That man is discreet about his choices, to be honest. So, I let him and headed back to my office while waiting for the last patient. I work part-time; perk of assisting the founder of the hospital! *wink* My stomach rumbled in apprehension and I stopped moving objects on the desk. Straightening in my chair, I caressed my stomach wondering what it might be. The snack; maybe. I tried my best to shake off the wary feeling when the door knocked. “Mrs. Martin, the next patient is for you.” Sophia informed with a blush on her face and I smirked at her. It was certain that whoever it was is handsome and good-looking. I nodded and she was out. The door opened few seconds later and my eyes lifted. A very familiar man beamed at me with those full pink lips. Suddenly, everything turned in slow-motion. The AC swung, wafting his scent in the room as the door slide close behind him. His heavy footsteps made their way towards the desk and he extended his strong arm for a handshake. I stood on my shaking legs as I accepted his hands. His thumb rubbed against mine and I bit my lower lip, to compose myself. “Mrs. Martin, what a small world. I must say I never expected to see you here.” His words in that thick British accent sounded sexy like before. I forced a smile. Though, we were cool yet I feel uncomfortable around him; especially when it was just the two of us, alone! My mind snapped to the day when I found him naked, in his room. I have to shake my head to remove that dirty picture from my mind and smiled at him; a fake one. “It’s really surprising to have you here, Mr. Jenkinson.” I wriggled my hand out of his and he pretended to have not known until now. His happiness to see me is dripping off his face. I don’t know how to react about that. “Please have a seat.” I offered, trying to find a way not to be awkward around him. I must say, his hair has grown slightly. That shaggy brown hair appeared cool on him; adds charm to his personality but no matter what, Adrian was still incomparable. “Actually, I am here for my shooting. Can you believe it?” He asked, crossing his legs while he leaned back on his chair. I stilled hearing that but feigned my reaction. “No way! That’s… great!” I acted too thrilled and he chuckled. “Thought so. I didn’t know you guys lived in this part. Stella would be glad to hear it out and maybe you can invite us over for a dinner, someday.” He smirked and if I stilled earlier; I turned into a stone right now. He was inviting himself over for dinner and who would be shameless to refuse? Not me! “Definitely! We can do that. Let us know your schedule so we can decide upon it—” I was choking myself with my own hands knowing it would infuriate Adrian but what choice do I have? The last dinner was really good. “Oh no, don’t bother.” He interjected and I sighed inwardly, chuckling at my own stupidity. Of course, he was just messing up with you. My brain mocked and I felt my face heating up. “We’ll show up whenever we find time, will inform before coming though.” He winked through those thick eye-lashes and burst into laughter while I grinned at him. Inside, I was screaming as my heart sink into pits. ‘Relax! Don’t overreact! He is just being friendly’ The inner voice pointed and it calmed me, a tad bit. “Very well, then Mr. Jenkinson. What brought you here? The dinner?” I asked trying to joke when his eyes locked to mine. With a serene smile, he chuckled lightly before leaning on my desk with those elbows. “I haven’t been feeling well since a day after my arrival. I feel nauseated, dizzy—” and so we were back to being professional. His situation was simple—Gastroentritis. I quickly decided it was best for them to join us at dinner if he isn’t able to adapt to the place, well. He thanked and returned and I decided to leave before Adrian sends someone to drag me out. On my way, I decided to stop by at Theo’s place not before picking up a smoothie. Paying at the counter, I turned and almost spilled my drink on an expensive looking suit. I panicked but cursed when I found Leo glaring at me. His face softened and smiled. “I… Um… sorry, Leo. I’ll clean it up.” I was about to reach for the tissues when he grabbed my wrist and shook his head. “Don’t worry, Sari. It’s actually nice to see you.” He said, ignoring the few-negligible drops that were magnified in my vision. How isn’t he bothered? “Yea, likewise.” I smiled when he stared for some time and nodded thoughtfully. “Alright. See you soon, some other day.” He took me aback from his reaction while he waved at me and headed to order his food. I was stunned and sighed in relief before running to my car. Woah! What an unpredictable day. Who would have thought to stumble into Thomas today? He should have been in UK but guess, his shooting was here. It was strange but you can’t control it, could you? I must say, he was fun this time. Not weird still I maintained my distance for Adrian’s peace of mind. ‘And yours too.’ My brain pointed and I nodded in agreement. But what took me aback was Leo! He didn’t make an attempt to keep the conversation going as he did, always. It could be possible that he is seeing someone and finally realized I was not worth his time. Yes, that way I can finally leave peacefully. Whatsoever, my mind was stuck with the look in his eyes—guilt? Fear? I am not so sure but he was not being himself. Not my concern but… Urgh! Leave it, Sari! It’s for good. I slammed on the gas-pedal to rush to the training ground.
