Eli pocketed the disabled earpiece and made his way over to the girl in the red gown. Even with the mask Mo was wearing, he could recognize her easily. His attention was only on her despite the gaudy costumes and gowns around him. She went behind the ice statue of the dragon and he looked at her through the ice.
She noticed him. He waited as she stepped out from behind the statue. She tucked her hair behind her ears. It was still the same Mo no matter what she wore.
“Hi," she said.
He smiled. “Hi."
“I'm Mo. And you are?"
She didn't recognize him. Maybe it was the strobe lights or the mask he wore hid enough of his face. Jennie was right. He didn't have to be Eli. He could be someone else entirely and there was heady temptation to it.
“I'm Elijah," he replied. “Do you want to dance?"
