I can hear sounds at my door. I roll in bed, and hear it more. I halt, open my eyes a bit and I hear it more. 'Sophia, go dress." Mum exclaims, knowing I have woken up, and leaves the door front. I lazily roll in bed for a minute and the next, I'm up. I wobble into the bathroom, kinda deprived of enough sleep. I jump into my bath tub, splashing water to the corners of the bathroom. I wash myself for literally ten minutes, and then I grab a bowl, and splash water on my body, screaming as I do. Nearly getting out of the tub, my memory reminds me that it's the D-day. Thought of pleasure and anxiety rush through my mind, and reflect on my face, wrinkling my forehead, and replenishing the sparkly ones almost immediately. Mood swings, I prefer to call it. I sit on bed, stand immediately and reach out for a towel lying on the bare floor near my wardrobe. Just then, Dad rushes into my room. I face back immediately I hear the sound of the door being very loud, and thank my memory for giving me an hint to grab a towel. I didn't know my door was on latch afterall. I locked it yesternight, didn't I? Well, I don't give a fvck. Whoever unlocked it, at least, did no harm to me. I face dad with a bewildered and annoyingly straight face, and he returns it with flash of shock, then with smirks.
"I am going to the penthouse, Sophia. But I will like to see you off first. Get dressed quickly." He speaks, snaps, winks, and claps his hands.
"But why didn't you knock?" I mutter, and stutter. "You should have knocked." I add, raising up the tip of the towel on my shoulder with my left index finger.
"I'm sorry, Sophia. It was urgent." He splutters, and leaves immediately.
I sigh, and walk up to the door as I lock it. I try to open it but it didn't budge. I am satisfied now. I loose the grip of the towel, and It falls to the ground leaving me bare. Fresh air rushes into my body, and I enjoy it but not until an object like a bat peeps through my windows, and runs away immediately. It is not just a run, it speeds away! I will try not to give a damn fvck about that too. I open my wardrobe, and pick up a pink shirt with a black skirt, and in five minutes, I am done wearing all I need to wear. I pack some other clothes that I will need in my hostel inside a travel bag. And as I pull it on the floor, I bend to pick up the towel, I pick it up, and throw it over the wardrobe. Afterall, I have some other better ones. I clutch onto the door's knob, and it doesn't budge. I remember that I locked it, I search for the keys in my skirt but can't find it. I let the bag rest on the wall, and I pick up my keys from the bed. But I didn't remove it from the door's locking space. How did it get to my bed?
I walk up to the door, unlock it, pick up my bag, and as I make a move to step out, dad bumps into me, and apologizes immediately.
"Are you ready?" He asks me, and helps me with my travel bag. Mum is calling my name from the kitchen. I can hear it well. Dad makes me walk faster, and we soon reach the sitting room.
"Dad" I point to our fourth TV beside my favorite swivel chair. "Can I take that along?" He chuckles, and walks up to mom's car outside. He opens the boot, and tucks my luggage in. I follow behind him to check up on him, and woohoo, I can see a lot of beverages and foodstuffs. I'm really going to get fat. Mum pulls me from behind, and sends her arms on my shoulder, giving it a tight protective hug. I do the same for her, and we enter. She directs me to the kitchen, and opens the pot where the food is simmering. Dad runs in, faces different direction, and calls my name. I answer, and mom and me leaves the kitchen to hear what he has to say. He pouts his lips and I chuckle.
"I will miss you, sweetheart." He says, and hugs me tightly. Mom blushes as she experiences the scene of an emotional tight hug between her family. Dad and Daughter. "Make sure you are a good girl, and a good wolf." He says, and hands over a copy of book to me. I collect it, and stare at it, as I open and flick through the pages. "You know I promised you a book, here is it." I blush, and asks for his hug once more. He hugs me, and loosens his grip on me thereafter. He faces the door, and waves at me, looking back every now and then. I make a move to take a step, perhaps to escort him, but faster than the twinkling of an eye, he leaves the sitting room, and out of earshot. Mum hugs me from behind as tears pool in my eyes. She cleans it, and pats my back. We both enter the kitchen again, and there she turns the gas cooker off. We are experiencing a strange blackout at the moment, thanks to Dad's opinion to get a generator, and thanks to mum's advice to get gas cooker. Both helped. Mum picks up a big spoon, and tucks the food into a cooler. She packs it neatly, and puts it into a lunchbox. She tucks eve, and many other fruits inside the lunchbox too. And all I can do is stare in disbelief, mixed with a trifle joy. Mum is nice, but not to a fault. She finishes the process, pecks my chin, and beckons to me to follow her as she goes to drop the lunchbox in the boot of her Lexus car. In ten more minutes, we are done, and I wave to our beautiful duplex, and a hand waves back at me. My face changes that minute and the next, it is normal again. Mum closes the boot hind door, and opens the doors of the car with tapping a remote. I choose a seat, and enter immediately. Mum enters into the driver's seat, and she clutches the seat beat onto her chest down to her navel. She pats the seat near her, near the driver's seat, and I move there. I was initially sitting at the back seat. Her aim is to make sure I am tightened by the seat beat too. I close all the doors except the one near her, and we say some prayers in the form of muttering. Mum then turns the key aside, and the car vibrates as it turns on the front light and back light at once. Mum grabs hold of the steering, brings the car into the military parking system, and then we join other cars on the road. Off to the park! And off to HAPPY KIDS HIGH SCHOOL.
