5 I parked the car in front of the driveway and turned off the engine. I looked at the house where I grew up, I hoped for a moment that the time had not passed, I hoped to be able to come in and hear my mother laughing because my father had dragged her away from the stove and was circling through the kitchen to the beat of a music that was not there, maybe it was only the beating of their hearts. But they were gone. The house was always shrouded in silence if I was not present and was the same even when I was inside. No one asked me how it had gone the day, no one was with me making plans for the future.
