Hazel POV
“Prince Grayson.” Alpha Craig hurriedly bowed his head as he greeted the royal. The prince just c****d a brow at him as if asking who he was.
“Alpha Craig from the Midnight pack.” he introduced and the Prince finally shook his hands, a look of realization in his eyes.
“I’m so glad you could make it here on such short notice.” the prince smiled.
“It’s my pleasure to be here, my prince.” Craig looked so happy as he turned towards Melody who quickly came to the front.
“This is my first daughter, Melody.” Melody almost fainted when the Prince kissed the back of her hands.
“Very beautiful.” he commented, holding her gaze and it felt as if there was something between them already.
Okay, something was definitely wrong with all of this. They were both trying to seduce each other! It was totally unexpected.
Alpha Craig was the happiest when Prince Grayson drew Melody to his side. In the process, his gaze landed on me. On my face first before his eyes raked all over my body.
“And who is this damsel?” he asked. Only then did Craig finally remember to introduce me.
“This is my second daughter, Hazel.”
“Hazel.” the Prince repeated, his eyes lingering on me for a few moments before he looked at the Alpha again. “You have such pretty daughters.”
“Why is it so packed up here?” A deep voice sounded and we turned to see the two other Prince’s arriving. Everything about them screamed of elegance. Each one of them was more handsome than the last and had the kind of smile that could melt any girl’s heart.
“They are people from the Midnight pack.”
“You didn’t tell me we had special guests.”
My eyes locked on the one who spoke. My target. The fourth and youngest prince, Raiden. The third prince, Ethan, was next to him.
I flicked my hair back, focusing my attention on my target. His eyes glided over me before they reached the Alpha who quickly introduced himself, but he seemed like he wasn’t interested in him as he moved his gaze again to the first prince, Grayson.
“Have you seen Kieran?”
Kieran? I recognized that name. The second prince!
“I’m not sure.” Grayson answered, “Father gave him an order, so I’m guessing he would not ignore it like other times.”
“He is probably alone somewhere.” the third prince gave a snort, seeming unbothered.
The fourth prince seemed to be worried as he roamed his eyes about. His gaze finally stopped on me after a while and I gave him a smile, but he just looked away, uninterested.
Damn it! What’s going on? Did I perhaps underestimate him?
Melody was having a very nice conversation with the first prince and here I am barely making any progress. Am I invisible to him or what? There was still plenty of time anyway, I should take this slow.
“Found him!” Raiden uttered, looking at a particular spot behind me.
I followed his gaze until my eyes stopped on a tall figure.
The second Prince.
Unlike the others who were in groups, he was all alone. I could see his face clearly from here, he was totally charming. He had dark red hair that was parted at the side, wickedly sharp but thick brows and dark eyes that could send chills down anyone’s spine.
His crimson red lips looked as if he just finished draining a person’s blood. It seemed as if the others wanted to approach him, but he had a hostile look and a dangerous aura that swirled all around him, as if trying to warn everyone not to think of getting close to him.
It was as if the event bored him, as if he was forced to be here, just drinking alone.
He casually raised his head up and my eyes happened to meet his, our gaze locked and I felt strangely startled and quickly looked away, but I could still feel his gaze on me.
He didn’t take his eyes away even when I wasn’t looking anymore.
Why is my heart racing this much? Perhaps because he caught me looking?
I excused myself for some fresh air, headed straight to the restroom to calm myself.
I heard giggles inside just before I turned the corner and I paused my steps. There was a group of girls gossiping and not that I minded them or planned to eavesdrop, but they just happened to mention the second prince and I decided to listen to what they had to say about him.
“But girl, choosing the second prince. Are you not afraid of dying mysteriously?”
“Do you really think the first prince could become King?” said a girl with a sharp voice.
“What do you mean? He is the crowned prince.”
“Yes, but the second prince is very capable too and much closer to the King. I heard he is planning to challenge the first prince when the time comes. If this is true, then you all know who would win!” the girl with a sharp voice seemed really convinced and her friends could see where she was heading to.
“The second Prince.” Another one whispered and they giggled again.
“Are you sure you can get into his bed?” one of them asked.
“With this? Of course,” the girl with the sharp voice brought out a vial from her pocket, “I heard no man has been able to resist the effect of this. Just a drop in his drink, he’ll be all mine.”
“Are you sure one time would get you pregnant?”
“Of course. I have been preparing for this. The queen gave me lots of supplements to boost my fertility just for this day. She already sees me as the next Queen.”
“Oh my! I am so happy for you. I cannot wait to call you my Queen.”
“Very soon.” she beamed, but her smile dropped when she noticed something. “Wait. I think there’s someone here.”
Oops! I couldn’t hide my presence anymore, so I just cleared my throat when they caught me.
The other one gave me a glare as she asked, “What are you doing here?”
“This is the restroom, why else would I be here? I didn’t know it was occupied. I can come back later.” I smiled and started to leave when the other grabbed my hands, stopping me from pulling the knob.
“How much did you hear just now?”
I put on a confused look, “I just got in. Is there something I am supposed to hear?”
She didn’t give me a reply. Just a scowl as she let go of me and I hurried out.
Wow! She was really something. Planning to drug the Prince is equal to treason, but it seemed like she had the Queen’s approval.
Well, it was none of my business, so I didn’t bother about it.
“Ouch…” because I was a bit distracted, I bumped my head hard into someone.
“Watch where you are going.” I heard a deep voice and when I looked up, I was surprised to see it was... the prince.
The fourth prince.
“Prince Raiden?” I uttered, slightly surprised as I held my forehead which was still hurting after bumping into him. Is his chest a wall or something?
“Keep your eyes open next time.” he told me coldly, our shoulders brushing as he walked passed me.
But that moment our shoulders touched, different images started to flip in my head. They were so foreign that I knew they were not mine.
What is happening?
I was seeing his memories just like that day and in one of them, I saw that man. I could swear I stopped breathing when I saw the pale skinned man who killed my whole family!
I had his face ingrained in my memory, so I could never mistake him for anyone else.
That murderer seemed to be very aquainted with this Prince.
They were talking, I could see their lips moving, but I couldn’t hear what it was all about. It happened so fast and then stopped.
I held my head. A sudden splitting headache made me squint my eyes as I felt my heart begin a familiar race of fear I wished I had more control over.
I heard Raiden’s footsteps coming from behind me and then he grabbed my arms.
In my defense, I flung his hands away.
Why did he come back?
“Hey, what’s wrong with you?” his voice made me look at him, eyes burning with rage as the images of my family in a pool of their own blood flashed in front of me.
All I wanted to do in that instance was to kill! I am going to kill every one of them involved in my parent’s death. Every single one!
I came back to my senses when I felt his hands rubbing my back, as if trying to soothe me.
“What are you doing?” I quickly stepped away from him. The images I saw just now were definitely his memories and seeing that man meant there was a chance he could also be involved in their deaths.
“It seemed like you experienced a shock just now. My mother used to do that for me whenever it happens and see, you feel better, right?”
Unlike how cold he had been treating me, his expression took a drastic change and he seemed a bit friendly now which I found weird.
Why did he change?
“I do feel better.” I answered, forcing a smile, “And I’m sorry for bumping into you earlier.”
“It’s fine.”
“Then I will take my leave.” I told him, bowing my head as I hurried to leave.
There was something strange in the way he was looking at me. It gave me goosebumps and even made Kira restless but she wouldn't tell me why.
Was it pity? It couldn't be.
It was more than that.
