Chapter Four- Preparations

2622 Words
“Ready to go?” Max asked as he held the keys to an unnamed Audi brand car. With the jingle of the keys taking her attention from the waving Mason and ignorant Olive on their way to her birthday dinner, it was up to Max and Sofia to go pick up what was needed for a surprise party.  “Yeah!” She responded with a tone that was far too excitable that she intended as she quickly lectured herself mentally on being too available. Nevertheless, she followed him to his dark car that was discovered to be a 2018 Audi A5 Cabriolet and was surprised to find him open the door for her. He waited for her to slide into his low seats before closing the door and taking the seat beside her. While closing the door, he looked to her with a look laced with a mischievous nature. “What do you like to listen to?” He spoke as he moved his hand to the stereo in front of him, using just the back of his two pointer fingers to pick a station per his passenger’s request. A gps showed their future pathway lit with a bright white line with the foliage and water surrounding them was then placed on the screen as well.  “How about some classical?” He spoke while putting on some Andrea Bocelli. The melodious tune filled the car as she looked to him with a smirk. “Okay...not a classical girl...how about this?” He asked while moving the knob of the radio and bringing it to a station that played heavy metal music. The artist was difficult to interpret as their words were mixed in with loud music which made it impossible to understand his words. “No? How about this?” He then put on the infamous teen sleepover song “Barbie Girl” by Aqua. She playfully glared at him as he then moved the station to one of basic hot 100 songs that was currently playing a Halsey song.  “Is this okay?” She nodded. “Great…” He then moved the shifter to the driving position before then beginning to drive down the road in the direction of the party store. As it was only a handful of minutes away, their conversation consisted of nothing more than the basic small talk such as the weather and the trip itself before they finally pulled up to the building. The building itself had been decorated with red and white stripes, appearing almost as if it would be better suited for a Christmas store than one for a variety of parties. There had also been a large clown emerging from the canopy that hung over those who passed beneath to its doors with large letters written in bold, giving a name to the establishment; “The Clown Stop”. Upon entering, Sofia and Max immediately came to the sight of several small aisles being forced together in an area of limited space. Each aisle had its own designated theme with the middle one having been that of wedding parties such as bachelor and bachelorettes. They began down through these first as they had to in order to get to the far back with the birthday decorations.  “What exactly is the theme for this party?” He asked while picking up a coconut cup that would be used for a tropical theme.  “I was actually hoping you could help me with that…” “How would I know?” “That IS your sister…” He smirked. “I know she used to have a huge thing for Zac Efron.” “I think every girl did at some point.” Upon making this comment, Sofia moved to the disco section, pulling a pair of disco ball sunglasses from a small kiosk and placed them on her eyes before looking back to Max.  “I think the only thing she would like about those is the fact she could make fun of you in them.” “How about...neon?” She asked while picking up neon glow sticks and moving towards Max, seeing him wearing a cowboy hat and placing on a belt complete with two plastic guns.  “Is that a theme?” “Anything can be a theme.” She teased as she walked further down the aisle, now standing by the pirate section as Max pulled multiple items from separate shelves. He had been wearing a large feather boa, an Abraham Lincoln hat, a construction worker fluorescent orange vest, and a pipe from a detective outfit.  “What would this theme be?” He asked her as he moved to the other aisle where she had now been focusing on a Paris theme for Olive. She couldn’t help but let out an obnoxious laugh as she was shocked by his choice of attire.  “I would say a time traveling detective undercover as a disco construction worker.”  “Okay...one second…” He then moved back to the other aisle as she focused back on decorations now finding a theme she thought would be perfect for Olive. By the time she put all the necessary objects within the cart they took on their way inside, Max had moved back to her, now wearing just a necktie, no shirt, and handcuffs. “And now?” He asked in a way that made him sound as if he was trying to be seductive.  “A very Christian Grey vibe.” “Really?” He arched his brow as he moved towards her as she lost interest while growing nervous and picked up a random object to the left of her. It had been a blow up Eiffel Tower used as a decoration but as she went to draw her eyes away from his bare torso, she gasped to the feeling of the fake handcuffs on her wrists. Her eyes quickly locked to his as he gave her his mischievous smirk that played perfect with the costume he had chosen.  “Wh-what are you doing?” “Playing into the character…” “Are you admitting to having watched Fifty Shades?” “No...but girls are crazy for a man to take charge...I won’t lie, I’m usually at the other end of the cuffs…” This made her blush as his touch was atop hers and her breath became rushed to his close proximity.  “You can’t test the product!” A worker scolded the couple as he moved the cuffs to their release.  “Too bad, I had you right where I wanted you…” He spoke before moving from the aisle and leaving her to soak in her own arousal. She bit her bottom lip, just as Ana would have done to her dominant lover, only she was never even touched or kissed by Max-even as she desperately wanted to be. She knew she had to get herself out of this close of a space and so she moved to pay for the items after bringing the card given to her by Mark. She slid it into the machine as Max moved behind her, carefully watching as she inserted the pin entrusted in her by Mark. When the items were fully purchased, they moved back to his car and then moved to the small grocery store deeper within town.  “The only time Norah is alright with buying junk food is for her kid’s parties….” The way he addressed his mother confused Sofia as this thought showed through onto her expression.  “You call your mom by her first name?” He shrugged it off.  “It’s a tricky situation...but tonight is a party and conversation like this isn’t exactly party talk...so...let’s go get the goodies!” He spoke trying to change the subject while moving into the grocery store. Max was the one to snab the cart as he moved throughout the aisles, moving directly to the junk food and focusing on the main foods considered to be party food. He had half of the cart full of chips and others with dip as Sofia focused more on the impressive foods such as crudites, cream puffs, and macarons.  “Now it’s time for our party…” he moved to the liquor department and picked up vodka, tequila, and all the little liqueurs and flavors to make iconic drinks such as basic shots, and mixed drinks such as s*x on the beach.  “I don’t think this is what your parents had in mind when they had us get provisions.” “Provisions? You really are a true college girl aren’t ya?” She smiled proudly.  “What about you? You are in college-” “Was.” He corrected. “I never wanted to. My dad pressured me and I wanted to humor my mom...so I went…” “So what do you want to do?” “It’s gonna sound cliche…A musician.” “Let me guess...lead singer?” “Guitar.” “Really? I can see it...you have the fingers of a guitarist.” His brow c****d as he grew intrigued.  “If you only knew what these fingers are capable of…” He spoke quietly as she found her eyes to lock onto his.  “What?” “We should hurry back, they should be getting home soon…” He ignored the fact that he made her blush before moving to check out and then move back home. “Time to party…” He spoke while moving from the car, pulling the bags from the trunk, and moving inside. Sofia began immediately on the decorations while Max focused on the music, having thrown his IPod on the dock in the living room and setting it to the appropriate music for a teen party. This consisted of 5 Seconds of Summer, Ariana Grande, and those of similar high stardom.  “You don’t strike me as the type to have Ariana on your Ipod.” By the time the playlist was created, she had made her way to the kitchen to whip up the finger foods, beginning with the macarons. Sofia teased him with the Ariana comment as he moved to her, pulling a section of flour from the bowl and throwing it towards her, making it look as though she had done a quick sniff of cocaine. Her mouth fell open in surprise as she took some between her fingers and flung it at him, having gotten his hair to give him an almost elderly look.  “Now you’ve asked for it…” He moved to the entire bowl of flour as her eyes grew wide and she ran around the kitchen, trying desperately to avoid his fistfuls of flour he had tossed in her direction. Most had left small increments of residue on her, while most had fallen to the floor and left footprints of their entire chase. Eventually, Max fell down to only one fist full with most of the contents having been on the floor. As Sofia went to quickly turn a corner, she slipped on the very flour throw by him and hit her head hard on the ground. Max rushed to her side, fearful that she suffered a potential concussion and pulled her onto his lap. Unknown to him at the time, Sofia had been gathering flour around her in order to throw it at him. When this was done, she opened her eyes to reveal it was all a dramatic ruse. When the flour came into contact with his hair, he c****d his jaw to one side, accepting the surprising defeat before slowly nodding.  “Fine…” Expecting the remainder of the flour to make contact onto her, she was flabbergasted at the feeling of his lips pushed hard against hers. He held her up almost as if she was weightless on his knee and set one hand on her waist and the other along her cheek. “Now we both got surprised tonight.” He spoke just as the door came open to reveal Olive and her group of friends. They looked at the scene to see the theme to be that of a hipster’s dream. Vinyl decorations fell around them and hung on multi colored garland complete with disco-silver strands of thin tinsel. Gift bags had been carefully crafted to match the theme as they were each filled with items specific to the theme such as polaroid cameras for each guest, vinyl shaped candies, sunglasses styled from the 1960s, and small lava lamps. Aside from the mess of flour upon the floor and the blushing Sofia, it was a scene perfect for a young hipster teenager. Along with her set of eight friends, Sofia was surprised to then see one of them to be Lulu, who looked to Sofia with a deep glare.  As her employers reentered the house, Sofia refocused on her task as she removed a broom from the closet and found Mark to move towards her.  “Did a bag of flour explode?” He joked as he helped her clean up, having seen the extent of the mess reach all around the kitchen. Norah moved immediately to lay down, leaving Sofia to allow her attention to fall on either Mark or Max. Her gaze continuously shifted to Max while she tried to pivot to her entire reason for being present in the Hillion house to begin with. As if it was a reminder of her task, Lulu pulled Max away from the scene as Mark assisted in finishing the mess that was made only minutes prior.  “I wish he wouldn’t be so damn immature…” Mark commented in regards to Max as Sofia simply acted as if it was a comment she never heard as she actually came to admire Max’s childlike qualities. “Why don’t you get washed up and I’ll finish cleaning-” “It’s okay, it’s my fault-” “Really...I would prefer if you would.” He spoke in a way that was meant to be kind, but sound almost as if he didn’t like the sight of her this way. Regardless of how it came off, she agreed and moved to shower. Having placed her clothes, folded, on the tip of the counter in her private bathroom, she saw from the corner of her eye how Mark had followed her and tried to spy on her. She acted as if she hadn’t seen him as she pulled her romper from her shoulders, having it fall to her hips, where it collected at the waist. With a bare back exposed in his direction, she could feel his eyes seer into her as she wore only her laced underwear that was a borderline thong as it hugged her butt cheeks. This exposed a little tattoo of a butterfly where the line of the underwear met the line of her hips.  She smiled to herself as she was unaware that this seduction scene was witnessed by not only Mark, but also Max, who had spotted her from standing near the pool. He felt for the first time in his entire existence that she was possibly unattainable to him. But that didn’t mean that he would stop trying…
