14 “Let’s get that collar off you,” Diane told her. The devil she’d promised her first born child to leaned over her on the gurney. Smiling, the scientist reached behind her neck and undid the clasp. Her nanos immediately scrambled to repair the lingering damage after it was removed. Somehow the silver device was holding them back well, unless they did so for other reasons. She thought of her partial shift with the collar on. Could their reticent actions be to preserve her? Heidi had to admit she felt very little ill effects of having had the collar on all night.
