Inside the Sphere
This was a challenge story. Write about an urban curse.
I went back to two pieces of my childhood.
One, I hated going to New York City to visit my grandmother. At the time, we were living in the deep country of upstate New York in a little town with 1,200 people and 10,000 head of dairy cattle. We lived 0.6 miles from the center of town and there were three significant dairy farms in that little distance. New York City at that time was dirty and very dangerous. Especially to a small child whose parents were bent on telling him how dangerous everything was there. Turns out they were the ones who hated the city, whereas I’ve grown to have a love-hate relationship with it as an adult; I really enjoy it…in small doses.
