Best friends

"Yeah, Mom! I'll be on time for lunch." Jace said over car speakers. He was speaking with his mom on the phone.

" I am on my way. Just going to pick up Sophie. "

Jace was a billionaire and a playboy. But he was Sophia's best friend. He called her Sophie with love.

"No, mom. She isn't picking up my calls. I have been calling her since morning. Alright, let me drive and reach her fast. Bye, Mom. See ya."

Sophia was a vibrant and cute girl. She was a simple girl with a small-town upbringing.

She was super intelligent yet belonged to a low-income family who couldn't afford her education. She lived in a small town in Texas and wanted to pursue her studies in New York City. With her good luck and hard work, she bagged a scholarship and got a chance to go to NY city and pursue her dreams.

She went to N Y on a high school scholarship, and being 18 years old and working part-time for her pocket money made her different from other students.

She has no time for boys and fun, except for one boy, her best friend, Jace. He was rich, hot, handsome, and the most desirable bachelor.

Being friends with him was a story. They met at school. He was her senior, the most popular boy in her college. And one day, he protected her when some students were bullying her. Since then, they have been friends. Best friends.

It was Sunday. Sophia wanted to sleep for the whole day. She didn't make any plans and completed her assignments the night before. She worked part-time and attended her classes the whole week. Now she wanted to rest. She wasn't going to wake up even if the earth was upside down. At least she planned for this, but to her luck she wasn't going to get any peace on Sunday.

Sophia's phone began ringing and kept ringing ......

She pressed to decline the call, but it started ringing again.

"What ..." Sophia yelled at whoever was calling her on Saturday morning.

"Hey baby girl ! I knew it . You forgot. Today you are supposed to come with me for my family lunch. Come on, get up quickly and get ready . I 'll be there in 10 minutes." Jace said over the phone .

"Whatever." Sophia replied and hung up.

She quickly got up and went to the bathroom. She only had 10 minutes.

After exactly 10 minutes, Jace was standing on Sophia's door ,hitting on her door bell impatiently . After continuously ringing the bell for 15 minutes ,Sophia opened the door .

"Okay I'm ready . Let's go...." Sophia hurried up and pulled him with her , shutting and locking the door at the same time.

"You are always late and now because of you I'll be late for my family lunch." Jace said, making a face.

"Oh yeah? Then, why didn't you take your girlfriend Nicky with you? You know that I want to spend my weekend resting in my dorm room on my bed , sleeping the whole day." She said lazily.

"Oh no. You know that she is a b***h. She never behaves properly with my family and makes it awkward. And .... I don't want to spoil my family lunch." Jace rolled his eyes and continued,

" In fact, they will be more happy to see you there . My family is very fond of you. Mom was asking for her favourite daughter, you know." Jace gave her a soft smile.

"Yeah ! Your family is actually very loving, Jace. I actually like to spend my weekends with them , while I am away from my home and I miss my family so much." Sophia said, as she was feeling sad as she missed her family.

After a few minutes of driving, they reached Jace's family house. It was a huge mansion with a beautiful garden and all the modern finishing. His mom, Camille Jacson, and dad, Peter Jacson were sitting in the living area. As they came into sight, his mom and dad came forward to welcome them .

Camille hugged Sophie. "Hey sweetheart , It's been a long time since I saw you. "

"Yeah Mrs. Jacson, I was busy with assignments. But I missed you all." Sophie said with a genuine smile.

She really missed them . Jace's family treated her like their daughter. His elder brother , Victor and his wife were also nice to her. She was very comfortable with them.

At the dining table, they were all having lunch and conversations were going on about their work and life.

Camille said to Sophie, "I really like that you eat like a normal human . Otherwise, Nicky eats nothing as if she lives on air." Everyone laughed at that .

Sophie looked at Jace . "Oh Mrs. Jacson, I love to eat . And I don't have a boyfriend who wants me to look like a model. Right Jace?"

"Oh, I never told Nicky to starve till death . It's her choice," Jace scowled.

"Oh my , how I wished that you were his girlfriend instead of Nicky," Camille said.

Sophia' s breath caught in her neck .

Jace annoyingly yelled at his mom, "MOM !"

"What? A mother can dream." His mom rolled her eyes.

"Anyways, Sophie, what are your plans for vacation? Are you willing to join us as a trainee?" Victor , Jace's brother, asked. He loved her as his little sister.

"Ummmm. Jace asked me to join him for training. So I am going to work for him this summer."

"That's great!.He will guide you better as he cares for you most," Victor said.

Sophie smiled, nodding her head.

They enjoyed a family lunch together. Chit-chat and teasing made the delicious lunch more interesting.

After they were done eating, Camille made Sophie promise that she would visit them soon.They left after some time.

They went to Jace's condo . They had made plans to watch a movie and order takeout for dinner. Both the friends were in a happy mood.

Sophie changed into Jace's t-shirt, which was too big for her, and went to her knees . Jace also changed and both were sitting on his couch in front of a huge TV. Jace asked her to choose a movie and he went to make some calls .

They watched the movie on the couch and fell asleep together. Sophie often spent her weekends at Jace's place . Jace threw a blanket over them and wrapped his arms around Sophie to avoid her fall from the couch.

There was no awkwardness between them because Sophie was his baby girl and he had never seen her otherwise as she was 6 years younger than him. For him, she was just a teenager. Out of his league.

They cuddled and slept.

Their relationship was so pure. It was pure and so innocent. Not everyone had this effect on Jace but Sophie. He never refused any of her demands. She had wrapped him around her tiny finger.

She only understood him. She never judged him for anything.

Only she had this place in Jace's life. He didn't understand why he cared so much for her. But he knew she was his best friend .
