7 “Then let us go,” Amphitrite spoke up as she twisted around to face the opposite shore. Their mermaid guide swam forward and the platform followed as though hooked to her body. Their speed was nearly as fast as a jet ski so that the back threw up sprays of water. Sarah braced herself as the platform lowered closer to the water. Their ride pushed its water brethren out of its path and created wakes on either side of them. Sarah leaned over and tried to look into the river waters, but they were far deeper than light could penetrate. She cringed and grasped onto Adam’s arms. He looked down at her with a sly smile. “You’re not afraid, are you?” She nervously giggled. “I never told you I couldn’t swim, did I?” He drew her against his chest and wrapped his arms around her.
