CHAPTER 6— MUST BE FREEDOM ON THE BRAIN

823 Words
Lexie was slowly losing hope. It's been an hour now since she started searching but there was nothing she could use to help with her escape. There was no sign of the keys which means he had them on him and she watched too many episodes of prison break to not check the boards under the carpet for a secret passage. She checked upstairs too, checked under each and every bed, checked the closets and even though she was positive that the windows were barred, she still double checked them. But as she had hoped against, there was nothing to contribute to a clean escape... Which only meant she had to stay with this psycho for the rest of her life. Away from her family, away from her friends, away from her boyfriend, away from her drawings...away from her home and with someone she'd prefer to travel the ends of the earths than stay with. Her life was truly traveling down a path of lugubriousness, the gods must've turned away from her. For if they haven't, they'd save her from such atrocity. If they haven't, they'd know that there was no way she could possibly live without her family. A family she had spent all her life with, a family that looked out for her at all cost. The gods could've taken anything else, but why did they choose to take her family and her life? Without even knowing it, Lexie's eyes became glossy and crocodile tears started to leak down each of her cheeks. She wanted her old life back. She wanted her freedom back. She wanted her pride back. She wanted her family back... She wanted...she wanted...she just wanted to be free... A quiet sob bubbled up her throat and exited through her mouth as she collapsed on the carpet situated on the living room floor. She felt impotent and weak, she felt frustrated and tired, she felt utterly defeated. Why was he, her captor doing this to her? What did she have that other girls didn't? Wha-? Why...? Another sob bubbled up her dry throat and her heart flipped in anguish when the denseness of her sadness settled above it. She needed an escape route and fast. She needed to leave before her mind and her heart gave up. And with that in mind, she trudged to the kitchen and grabbed the sharpest kitchen knife she found, then trotted up the stairs and to the last door on the floor...her captor's office. She knocked twice, holding the knife in shaky hands and watching the closed door with eyes blackened by wet mascara. She knew what she had planned was wrong, but with an escape in mind what else could she do? Just seconds later, footsteps were heard, then the twisting of the knob, then the opening of the door. Panic slowly washed over her then, the pace of her heart and the rationality of her mind speeding off into the distance like a piercing arrow and despite the blurriness of her eyes, they settled steadily on her captor who watched her with curiosity. "What do you want Lexie? I specifically told yo-" Before he could finish, Lexie's hand decided to react. She drove the knife forward, stabbing the man in the shoulder. A gasp was heard, loud and pain-filled, then a thud that notified her that her captor had fallen. She looked down at him, hands shaking so bad that the knife too fell on the boarded floor. She stabbed him, she actually stabbed someone, but now that she did, what should she do? Help him? Finish him off? Get him som-no, this was all his fault. If he hadn't kidnapped her none of this would've happened. She'd be home, in her room with her sketchbook, her pencil and her crayons or in the kitchen with her mother or outside with her troublesome brothers.. But instead she was here and it was all because of him. He doesn't deserve her help, not after all he's done, so why should she help him? The keys were what she wanted right? Well they were what she'd get. She waltzed pass the wincing man seated on the floor, leaning almost breathlessly against the open door and into the office, looking around for her only hope at escaping. She spotted it, a bucket load of keys hooked to a keychain there on a desk littered with papers, a cup full of pens, and a black computer. She grabbed it with ease and ace, then quickly scampered forward with just one thought... The thought of making it outside, making it to freedom. But as she now came to know, freedom didn't come easily and even if it did, some obstacle will, without a doubt come up later and right now, the hand holding tightly to her right foot was that obstacle. **** *** AN/| What do you think?
