Chapter 1
When a new student comes to school, he or she gets lots of attention. It may be fake or real attention, especially if you come from a rich family. They are to be acquainted with the popular group easily.
I remember that day very well. As I passed by, I heard that there was a new student. I did not pay much attention to it since it was a common thing that happens in schools.
I opened my locker, took out the books for my next two classes. Mathematics and science. I will know the new student later, now I need to get to class.
As soon as the class filled, the teachers entered and started to teach. It is had been a week since the schools opened after the summer holiday. Learning had been going on as usual. I do not know why people usually made a big deal about new students. We have had many new students this semester.
The teacher continued to teach about some calculus problems. I was not the cliché nerd that spent all of her time in books. I did get some good grades because I studied and listened to the teachers.
The bell rang indicating the end of the lesson. I somehow hated this class because none of my friends was there.
At the door, students parted the way for me.
Yep, I was that popular. I was not the head cheerleader, because I was not into that s**t. The thing is that my family owned half of the school.
It is not as if I told them to treat me like royalty. They decided to and who am I to stop them.
In the next class, I sat on my reserved seat next to my boyfriend
Merrick Pinault.
He and I have known each other since we were kids. Years of friendship created a good foundation of love.
He was chatting with his friends when I walked in. There was a new face seated next to Megan, Merrick’s twin sister. I guess she was the new student.
"Hello, guys." I greeted them as I sat down.
"Hey, how was your class?" Lexi asks
"Same old boring. I almost was caught sleeping. I have told you many times that teacher does not know how to keep students entertained."
"Don't worry Lina; the two years will fly by quickly."
"It's good you have that teacher so you won't skip or sleep. He will tell your grandfather."
"Whose side are you on?"
"Yours of course," Lexi answered back
Megan and I met with Lexi in kindergarten. We instantly became friends. Merrick made his male friends Andre and Vincent. The six of us rule this school with Meg as the next captain of the cheerleaders and Vincent as the next football captain.
I was not much of a sports person neither was Merrick just did it for fun.
"Lina, I want you to meet Stephanie or Steph if you like."
We exchanged our pleasantries as the teacher entered the class.
These two years are going to be hard for me. My grandfather had asked some teachers to report to him about my class attendance. I did not know who it was so I had to be alert in all classes.
Even if I skipped classes, I did catch up with them. As I said, my grades were good. I do not know why he is persistent in class attendance. I do my assignment; get good grades that should be enough.
I had to do what the Windsor patriarch said, or a lot was at stake, a lot.
The chemistry teacher was not bad at all. She was livelier than Mr. grumpy from algebra was. The next class, which was art, was not bad also. Lexi and Steph the new girl were with me.
During lunch, we sat at our usual table. The six of us, actually we are seven; I do not hate Steph or something I just need to get to know her more.
"So Steph, where are you from again?"
"Montana,” she replied.
"Montana. The home of cowboys. Do you have an older brother or something?” Lexi queries.
"Seriously Lexi,”
"What? You don't find cowboys hot?"
"Did I hear someone say cowboys are hot?" Andre asked as he arrives at our usual spot followed by Merrick and Vincent.
"Yeah, your girlfriend." I snitched.
"Snitch."
"You prefer Cowboys over me?" Andre asked feigning to be hurt which he really sucks; he would never make a good actor.
"Andre please seat down. You cannot act even if your life depends on it. Stick to football." I teased.
"You are being extra blunt today."
"I am always like that."
Out banter continued all way throughout the lunch. If you have not noticed yet, Merrick, Andre, and Vince are the clichés, good-looking guys. Then there is Meg, Lexi and me. Not forgetting our new addition to the group. Out of the six of us, I am the one who is usually distant from new people. Keeping people I do not know at arm's length is a habit that I usually have.
The rest of the day was good. We all had the last class history together. The guys did not have to practice so it was our hangout time and then Merrick would drive me home. In the morning, my grandfather’s chauffeur usually drives me.
"You have been pretty much quiet today," I asked Rick once we were in his car.
"I have a lot in my mind," He replies not taking his eyes off the road.
"Like being shipped off to a boarding school in England?" Ricks and Meg's mom want to send them to a boarding school in England. I do not know what made her come up with such an absurd idea. Both of them are doing well in school it is not as if they are rebellious or anything, I guess she wants the kids away so they do not trouble her. Our mothers are alike in many ways yet different.
He chuckles then looks at me .
"Yeah, and failing chemistry."
“We can study at my place as always,” we always study at my place because his mom hates me. Both our dads died five years ago; mine was in a car accident, his dad was sick. My mom stayed for a while disappears then comes back again she always says it is work but I know better. Merrick's mom is there but there would be no difference if she were not. She hates me so much; she has dedicated her life to hate me. She has tried to keep Meg, Rick, and me apart. She even became worse when Rick and I started dating.
I lean to give him a kiss. “I am driving Lina,” he complains.” I know that’s why it’s fun,” I continue kissing his neck with one hand ruffling his hair while the other one trails down his crotch. He may complain but I know he likes it.
We arrived where the others were waiting for us late of course. We had to know Steph a little bit better and vice versa. Today was a good day overall. No detention, I behaved well in classes and, so on. Nothing could go wrong or that is what I thought.
In the living room of the Windsor, the mansion was seated, my grandpa. The visitor seated with him made my day worse.
“Hey, baby."
"Mom, you are back…” I trail off nor sure what to say. This has been happening for years now since dad died. She comes then goes.
“Hello Merrick,” I somewhat forgot he followed me,” I had to, we need to talk.” She said not giving any room for discussion.
