Emily’s POV. As soon as he left, servants scurried into the room and cleaned up the mess of the broken bottle—they took away the wine glasses, table, and chairs, and I was left alone again. My legs buckled and I dropped to the floor with a soft thud, my gown forming a loop around me. At last, the tears found their way, pouring like soap from my eyes and soaking my clothes; the more I wiped them, the more they came in torrents. A howl filled the air. Sniffling, I gazed up at the night sky, recognizing who it was. There was so much sadness laced in that cry, that broke my heart. Another howl broke into the air and I jerked to my feet.
