The Lost Dragon Princess

Prologue

The day had been coming from quite a long time and both of them had known it. And they also knew that except hiding they had no other option. Magic could only protect them for so long and they knew that whatever might happen they needed to save the only sign of their love.

“How long will she be, Zanyrheesa?” asked the Elven Prince, Marioth.

“She will be arriving in her own time, darling,” said the Dragon Princess. She was one of the most powerful dragoness in the seventeen Cosmic Realms but she still knew that she was never going to be able to fight or protect the darling child that she was carrying inside herself.

“You do understand that we have gone against magic and there will be a huge price to pay for that?” asked Marioth as he sat down in the dark damp cave beside Zanyrheesa and caught hold of her hands and squeezed them to help her go through the pain that she was enduring for the past three days and nights.

“I have seen what will happen to you and I have seen what will happen to me. And I know what price I have paid for this little bundle of joy to be coming to existence. This was not supposed to happen but I cannot go on thinking that I could have done something to have a sign of our love in all the realms and chose not to,” said Zanyrheesa as she screeched in pain and then said,” Mar, she is coming. I can feel it.”

“I am here. Tell me what I can do to help you through it?” asked Marioth as Zanyrheesa laid down. The dragonesses usually changed forms and laid eggs and protected them with their lives but since the baby was a miracle she had to be in her human form to give birth.

And after hours of labour and pain when finally the child was born Marioth could only bask in happiness that this was the fruit of his love.

“How is she doing?” asked Zanyrheesa in a tired voice.

“She is doing perfectly. She is so healthy and just look at her eyes…she looks just like you but with my hair of course,” said Marioth as he showed the baby to Zanyrheesa and she smiled and said,” My love, you know what you need to do.”

“I know that we agreed upon that, but do you think that it will be what is best for her? She is like no other and she is a miracle…and sending her to the planet which is infested with vermin like creatures with no magic at all….I am scared,” said Marioth as he rocked the sleeping babe in his arms.

“No one can be more scared than me and I have been running around with her all this time. But until she is ready to take charge of her destiny, I think it is for the best that she lives in a place where no one will be able to understand that she has magic running in her veins and not just your magic….my magic as well…she is the one prophecied to save my realm, darling. And she will be able to do that only if she lives which will never happen if assassins are sent after her,” said Zanyrheesa and tear were running down her cheeks and Marioth said,” I shall make sure that she will be able to find her legacy when she is sixteen summers old. That she will know who she is and she will be able to gain control of her powers.”

The Dragoness mother took her child in her arms for the first and last time and said,” Sigrune, I bless you with this name so that it brings you victory wherever you are no matter what kind of circumstances you are in.”

And Marioth closed his eyes and wrapped all of them in a cocoon of blue magical tendrils and said,” And I bless you with the name Vida…so that you live and create life wherever you are and make life of everyone around you better. You will be the only one who can find the lost Dwarven Blade on Earth and wield it and fully comprehend its magic and power. And our charms and love will protect you wherever you are.”

The babe did not even know that her destiny had been written in the stars from the moment that she was born.
