"Today is definitely not my day". Mayla Whitlock though as she attempted and failed to get her dress over her hips, she had the dress fitted prior 3 weeks in preparation of the choosing ceremony tonight. The choosing ceremony was the single most important moment of a young wolf's life, not only will she be receiving her wolf and life companion but she would find out which of the 4 elemental pack houses she belonged to. Fire, air, earth and water. Each is based strongly on one's bloodline. Once every 2 years the 4 elemental packs got together on neutral territory to help usher in the new pups as they gain their wolf and powers sometimes saying goodbye to their children after 18 years of life.
There is also the chance of finding your mates within the clans though it is rare to mate outside of one's elemental house or the gain powers that differs from the pack you where raised in but not completely unheard of.
"OH dear this will not do" Maylas mother Kathrin sighed as she spotted her daughter struggling into her fitted white dress. Maylas mother is an elegant woman standing at 5'7 three inches taller than Mayla with hair the color of honey and a slight frame.
"Well what will do mother because it certainly isn't this dress" Mayla argued.
"Always quick to temper little one, I do hope your wolf is one of patience or you will not pass the training." Kathrin titled her head as she took in the situation, Mayla hated it when she did this her mother could always see though her. With the flick of a wrist Maylas mother managed to get the rest of the zipper down allowing Mayla to fit into her dress.
"Thank you.." Mayla sighed as her mother finished helping her get into the blasted thing. "No need to thank me little one, it is my job to help you." Just the there was a knock at the door, "May we come in?" Maylas father Joseph asked, "Yes fathers!" Mayla called. As her fathers walked in both mated to her mother Joseph feeling the call to her first at the age of 18 during the choosing and Samuel feeling the call at the next ceremony 2 years after. Mayla always wondered which of the two she sired from but never had the confidence to ask, that is if they even knew. Being an only child did mean she was constantly doted on by her father's.
"You look beautiful." Joseph expressed, Samuel grunting in agreement. Joseph was always the most expressive of her two fathers. Standing at 6'4 with long blonde hair, while Samuel the dark and silent type with black hair and a bulky frame at 6'1. Having two mates made her mother one of the more powerful she-wolfs of the pack next to their Luna who has 3.
Elemental packs are run by the Lunas with their mates supporting them in and way deemed necessary, the more power the she-wolf has the more mates she needs to sire and protect her bloodline.
Mayla's parents are all apart of the Water Atlantic elemental pack. All having eyes the colour of the ocean once their choosing ceremony sorted them, Mayla always hated her brown eyes.
"Your father is right you do look beautiful little one. Have you looked in the mirror yet?" Kathrin asked guiding Mayla to the full sized mirror in her bedroom.
Mayla took in her reflection in shocked silence, she did look beautiful. Her long black hair was curled and fell to her hips, the short white lace dress she wore hugged her curves in all the right places. Though she still thought her chest and hips where still to large for her frame it did compliment it. Her mother had also helped her put dark shadow on making her brown eyes pop on her heart shaped face, as well as lipstick making her already full lips seem more prominent. She wore flats as heels would be pointless though she could use a few inches as she was only 5'4 but never mastered walking in the death traps. "Driver is here miss!" Someone called from downstairs.
"Okay dear time to go, don't want to be late for the rest of your life." Joseph winked earning a elbow form Samuel. "First take this." Samuel handed her a gold charm bracelet with 3 sapphires. "Just incase your call is somewhere else, remember we will be with you." "awe now look who's the soft one." Joseph expressed making a show of dabbing his eyes causing Mayla and her mother to laugh all while Samuel glared. "Thank you father, you where always my favorite." Mayla joked while pulling Samuel into a hug. "HEY, that's not fair!" Joseph stated "I helped too, I wheres my hug!?."
"Okay you two stop teasing Joseph you know how he gets." Kathrin scolded with a slight turn of her lip.
Mayla sighed pulling away from Samuel, she really did hope her choosing ceremony elemental is water as she couldn't imagine living in a part of the world without her family. Mayla then hugged her Mother and Joseph wiping tears from her eyes.
"Okay I'm ready." Mayla stated with all the confidence she could muster, knowing her mother seen straight through it. "Remember when your wolf awakens relax your soul, mind and body it will make the first shift easier." Kathrin stated as Mayla's parents walked her to the door, "We will meet you there, if you get nervous remember we will be there okay kiddo?" Joseph said. "yes, just outside the choosing ring." Kathrin stated wiping her own tears away. "We are so proud of you and can't wait to see the woman you will become." Joseph said with tears in his eyes.
Mayla offered her parents a weak smile and walked outside where a shiny BMW was waiting only looking back at her home for the last 18 years. hoping it would not be the last time.
"Come on Mayla get ahold of yourself, the likelihood of your element being different from your parents is next to nothing, you'll be back here in the morning." Mayla scolded herself.
Something has felt different the last few weeks leading up to the choosing but it was most likely nerves. What else could it be?
