EPILOGUE
"Come're you little monsters!"
Stark yells at our two little four year old twins.
The troublesome redhead duo shrieks and laughs, almost getting caught by
their father.
My husband growls lightly as they get away and continue running up the
driveway to my parents house.
"The hats aren't that bad," he exclaims holding up the caps with his favorite
football team logo on it.
"You know they wouldn't wear it. They like Kain and Kalona's team way
better."
Stark scowls.
"Only because their the favorite uncle's, but I'm their dad! They're supposed to
advertise my team!"
What is it with men and pushing their team opinions on other people. The
Basilisks are undefeated six seasons in a row.
As the kids reach the top of the porch steps, the front door flies open and my
dads embrace their grandchildren.
"Pete! Polly! Look how much you've grown!"
I roll my eyes knowing they saw the kids last week, not to mention every week
since they were born.
"And there's my beautiful daughter," daddy Kai holds his arms open for me.
"Hey Daddy."
I give a hug to my other dad too before walking inside to greet my brothers.
After distributing kisses to everyone's cheek, I begin to hug those that my
brothers either married or have dated in the past four years.
Grey, Arobynn, Jonah, James, and Ragnar have all gotten married. Jonah has
two sons, both five and a half years old and Grey's wife has a girl on the
way. Kalona and Aedion brought their girlfriends, but Gio, Kain, and Rowan
remain single.
Maybe I should set them up with some friends.
Pushing the thoughts aside, I give my two nephews a kiss on the forehead
and they run off to play with Polly and Pete.
"No more green slime!" Jonah calls after the boys who are bad influences on
my kids.
I shiver thinking about the green goo the boys filled a balloon with. They stuck
it up the rear end of our chicken at dinner so as soon as Daddy Jack stuck the
knife in... Well you can imagine.
My hair was green for two days after that.
As usual, we all sit in the living room and chime in on how the businesses are
doing, the kids, and we tease the single boys about finding girlfriends, to
which they both cringe.
"Or... I could not spend my money on a greedy gold digger only to dump her
annoying ass in a month," Gio growls.
Some laugh and others nod, but the girlfriends of Kalona and Aedion look
scared and alarmed.
I grin realizing they've just been outed. So, they want money? So, they want to
waste my brothers time? Jokes on them. My brothers are the least romantic
people on the planet and they wouldn't even bother buying a girlfriend gifts,
even if it was her birthday. They're the ones wasting their time.
The evening is going well, but we decide to put off the family football game
until after dinner. Thank God it can be recorded.
Right on time at six sharp as always, I hear the call.
"Boys! Dinner is ready!"
All the boys race to the kitchen, leaving the wives, girlfriends, and myself
behind. The new girlfriends give each other alarmed looks and I giggle with
my brother’s wives. We all get up to move to the kitchen, sitting at the huge
dinner table that has since my childhood, expanded enough to fit thirty
people.
Sitting down we all look around until my mother asks, "Where are the
children?"
Nobody gets the chance to go look for them because a moment later, the
entire room is encased and everyone in it is covered with...is that...Yep.
Slime. At least this time it's purple.
"KIDS!!!"
