CHAPTER TWO Lowering the wires, I looked at the timer. I half-expected it to blow up anyway, but it appeared to be completely disarmed. My heart was racing, adrenaline rushing through my veins, to the point where I barely remembered that my shoulder was badly wounded. All I could think about was how lucky I had been to pull the right wire—or perhaps wires—and not kill us all. I wasn’t a big believer in God, but if you had told me that God had been guiding my hand at that moment to ensure I picked the right wire, I wouldn’t have argued against that in the slightest.
