Trixie made a quick call to her mom to make sure Piper was still fine, and found out the girl was sound asleep on the couch. Trixie envied her, to be honest. She’d love to be asleep on her mother’s couch, with no worries in the world. Instead she had a disaster brewing. She led Mac down the boardwalk to the curving gravel beach at the tip of the harbor. From here they couldn’t see Chase’s big stupid boat, but they could see the forests and granite peaks of Lost Souls Wilderness. Swells rolled in off the bay and dissolved into foam as they hit the pebbles of the beach. The occasional jellyfish washed up in the churn, like opaque amber jewels shining amid the stones.
