"What of hybrids mama?"
"That is a story for another day my sweet Natalia." My mother placed a kiss on my forehead, her eyes sparkling with warmth. "Besides, that's enough about the scary creatures and it is really time for you to wake up."
I frowned at that. "You mean time to sleep?"
"No child, you've been sleeping for too long already, wake up." A gentle nudge bathed the little room we were in with light, thrusting me into wakefulness and leaving me with the usual regret of having to part with my mother. It being a dream did not make it any easier.
"Argh..." Groaning and blinking unnecessarily at the glaring morning light, I rolled over, wanting to escape it all only for me to let out a small yelp as I realized too late that I'd been sleeping at the edge of the bed. A bed that was certainly not mine.
The feel of a luscious carpeted floor beneath my hands made that fact very clear. And what in God's name was I wearing? I shot to my feet, my eyes widening at the black silky nightgown that did beautiful things for my figure and also something I did not remember ever owning. That little detail drew my attention to the rest of my surroundings. What the actual hell?
I blinked at the insanely spacious room with high ceilings and all the luxury screaming 'royalty' back at me. The room was bathed in lavish tones of silver and white. Elegant curtains in similar tones hung gracefully, framing tall windows. A potion of them had been drawn back, letting through the glaring sunlight that had woken me. Was that someone's deliberate move? I snapped to the bed to confirm my suspicions but I was left in awe of the grand, detailed piece of furniture that commanded attention. How the hell had I fallen off such a large space?
Swathed in sumptuous sheets, it was something fit for a king and I couldn't for the love of God understand how I'd ended up there. Was it some surprise getaway with Lucian?" A nagging feeling at the back of my mind seemed to disagree.
"Good morning." The deep husky sound of the male species lit up my memory like Christmas lights. Lucian's betrayal, the heartache I still refused to face that came with knowing that the last three years of my life had been a lie, my escape from the Nightshade Pack or my attempt to. And then...Octavius...
I froze, knowing very well who that male species behind me was. I felt his gaze on me, a tangible force, like the weight of a heavy blanket on a chilly night, enveloping me in an intense connection. And despite the luxurious night gown, I suddenly felt naked and exposed. He made me nervous, but damn if I would let Octavius Thornevale know that. I had met enough of his type to know he would feed off my fears. It didn't even matter that this was his domain and that he was already doing a pretty good job showing who was boss.
Composing myself, I pivoted and casually arched a brow at him. "Huh, you are alive after all." I noted with a confidence I did not really feel.
Annoyance flashed in those dangerous eyes before that smirk I'd come to hate painted his lips. "You didn't think a little moonshade serum could take me out now, did you?"
"Well, a girl can hope." I shrugged. I knew death was impossible, but while I plunged that needle in Octavius' neck, I'd hoped it would do some kind of damage. Even a temporary one. Not have him sit before me, looking as sinful as hell. What was he trying to do, seduce me to my death instead of the usual gory ways hybrids were used to?
"Where am I? I demanded, barely ignoring the god like figure in front of me threatening my sanity.
"Mystic Manor." Octavius volunteered the information with a hint of pride. And why shouldn't he? The damn place was like a legendary fortress in the super natural realm. If it wasn't my prison at the moment, I would have been happy at the opportunity to be inside the place.
"In my bedroom." That too came out with a hint of pride. Maybe more than his announcement about Mystic Manor and for whatever reason a part of me was suddenly aware that it was just the two of us in here.
"What am I doing here?" I ignored the intruding thoughts that were filled with nothing but the alpha in front of me and tried to focus on any useful memory I might have had over how I'd gotten here or how long I had been here. Nothing.
"I told you. You belong to me now." Octavius stood, as if wanting to punctuate his statement with his domineering frame. "You are mine, until I say you are not."
Annoyance prickled with his declaration. I belonged to no one! "That binding spell means nothing. I made it with Lucian, not you." I spat, and if there was something I knew about spells, it was that each party had to consent to the bond somehow. At least I hoped it was so.
"A technicality I'm about to correct." Octavius grinned and before I knew it, he was in front of me and pulled me in, hands wrapping around my waist that suddenly felt tiny.
My breath hitched at his closeness. "W-What do you think you are doing?"
Those crimson-gold eyes blazed a whole shade of something. Desire? Possessiveness? Want, need? Whatever it was, it swirled deep in those orbs as he leaned in, dragging me along with him. His fangs pierced into my flesh, the pain overwhelming me, but just for a moment as it gave way to a pleasure I did not expect.
"Octavius..." The stupid moan escaped my lips without my consent as every part of me dangled at the edge of ecstasy. A hybrid's bite, they said, was intoxicating. They were wrong. Because this was way beyond intoxication. Whatever I felt as Octavius sucked and had his fill, it was the most sensual of experiences. More than all the orgasms Lucian ever gave me over the three years, combined! And if I did not make him stop, I would be lost forever. Not to death, but to the bastard hybrid who was taking me without my consent.
"Octavius, stop!" He did, but definitely not on my account. The satisfied smirk on his blood stained lips said it was too damned late. "What did you do?" I growled when I could think clearly again, but the jerk of an alpha only flashed me his heart stopping smile and stepped back.
"I'd take a bite if I were you." As if on cue, the doors to the bedroom opened and in flowed a stream of women, all carrying some shiny plate of something. The to die for aromas that suddenly filled the room let me know what the something was, leaving my stomach growling. Octavius gave me a knowing look.
"Why, fattening me for your sacrifice?" I scowled.
"You are going to need it while your blood accepts my essence."
His essence? The moonfire essence? I felt myself pale at his words. "You poisoned me...with you?!"
"Now you and everyone will know that you belong to me and none will dare lay their hands or claim on you." He growled. The very idea seemed to annoy him just by thinking about it, but that was not my concern at the moment.
Once the door shut after Octavius' furious and unexpected exit, I rushed to the mirror, panic settling in my gut as I inspected my shoulder. Finding what I was looking for, my world shattered anew. It was no spell or werewolf mark or vampire love bite, but it was definitely something. The fading glowing in my skin confirmed his words... I was bound to Octavius Thornevale, never to escape him.
