Cora woke up. It's time. We need to leave. Now come on, get up, I go. I jumped up out of bed. I was already dressed and ready to leave. I showered and put clean warm clothes on. Before I went to bed a few hours ago, I slipped my shoes on and tossed on a sweat shirt jacket and scarf. I packed a few extra sweat shirts and scarfs and another jacket in my duffel bag in case I had to shift unexpectedly and I destroyed the clothes I was wearing. The rest of the pack should be at the mating ceremony. Mom and I were ordered not to attend because we are the servants of the pack house and our alpha, Jake, did not want us at the ceremony. He thought we should be cleaning and cooking the big feast for the pack after the ceremony. I packed a duffel bag and a backpack. I took everything I owned, which wasn't much, just a few clothes I saved up to buy but never got to wear because I was never able to wear them. My mom had to wear maids' uniforms all day every day, because the 2 of us were the ones to cook and clean the entire pack house that housed over 300 people. Not family. Our pack had over 2000 members, if you include the families. We snuck down stairs with our bags and went out the side door. The one no one used it quietly behind her, my mom motioned for me to follow her. as quickly and quietly as possible, we crept along side the pack house ducking under windows in case anyone was in the pack house. there shouldn't be they all should be up on the ridge for the mating ceremony. We made it to the end of the pack house and looked around and didn't see anybody or anything. We crouched down low and, holding our bags close to use, we crept along the grass close to the tree line around the pack house. We took one last look around and made our way into the woods, being as quiet as possible and trying to stay calm. Wolves could sense fear, nerves and smell it, so we had to be very careful about not letting it affect us till after we were a safe distance away or we would never escape. it had been almost 2 hours now and we had to be getting close to the edge of our territory where my mom rented a car and had it hidden and waiting for us. Neither my mom or I knew how to drive, but we had to try. My mom was learning when she was a teenager and did pretty well. My grandfather was teaching her till he was killed by the father of the alpha we have now. Finally, we made it to the edge of the pack territory. We looked around us, across from us and up and down the road and saw nothing. Nothing moved. It was almost 2 am though, so most animals were asleep. We crossed the road and now we were off our pack property. we We just passed the tree line on the other side and began walking west. We walked another few hours as quietly as possible and, finally, with our pack land behind us and barely in sight. This is it, Cora, this is our chance to escape and begin our new lives.
