تكررت اللقاءات مع ميندي و كان هنري سعيدا جدا ، يبحث عن الفرص لكي يقا**ها . . . يخلق الصدف من العدم . . . يدعي المعرفة بكل ما تجهل ، بل أصبح يقا**ها تقريبا كل يوم لكي يلقي عليها سحرها . . . . هو طبعا كان يفعل ذلك لكي يوقعها و يفعل ما يريده ، لا ينكر أنها حلوة و لا يشعر بالملل معها لكن أيضا جميلة و خلابة و هذا كان مطلبه منها . . . هو يعشق النساء الجميلات و ميندي كانت بالنسبة له تحدي كبير . . . . يجب أن يضع ب**ته على كل إمرأة جميلة رأها ، يجب أن يترك أثر خلفه عند كل فتاة حلوة أو ذات جمال جذاب . . . . اما هي كانت تجده ساحر و تتعلق به كل يوم و يزداد حبها لها كأنه سم يتغلغل داخل خلايا الدم التي تسري بشراينها . . . . كل مرة تدمنه كالخمر ، لا تعرف لما يتشرب في كل روحها هكذا . . . . بيتر عندما رأى تعلق ميندي الشديد بهنري خاف عليها ، فهو يحترم والدتها كثيرا و هم أشخاص بسيطون يحترمون لقمة العيش التي ي**بونها بتعبهم و هذا ما يجعله يحترمهم ، و ميندي كانت امل والديها . . . . لم يكترث بيتر للفتيات اللائي كان يرافقهم من قبل هنري ، كلهن من الطبقة المخملية و لكن ميندي ليست كذلك . . . . هي لن تتحمل الجرح و أهلها لن يتحملوا هذا ، حذرها بيتر بأن هنري لعوب و لكن عيناها كانت عمياء بسبب شغفها نحو هنري . . . . و عندما يأس منها كان يحذر هنري من أن يؤذيها لانه يعلم نوايا صديقه . . . . لدرجة أن بيتر دخل معه في شجار كبير على هذا الموضوع هدده ألا يؤذيها فإتهمه هنري بأنه معجب بها و يحبها . . . . لكن بيتر لم يرد عليه لانه لن يفهم مشاعر الناس البسطاء مثل اهل ميندي الذين لا يملكون سوى إحترام أنفسهم و السمعة الطيبة . . . . بعدها لم يكترث هنري لبيتر لانه مشغول بما يريد . . . . كثر خروجه مع ميندي التي أصبحت تتناقش نقاشا حادا مع أهلها بخصوص هذا الموضوع . . . . و في تلك الليلة عندما تحدثت معها والدتها و احتد النقاش بينهما ، خرجت عن طوعها و ض*بت ميندي التي صدمت و خرجت تبكي حزينة وسط المطر . . . . و عندما رأها هنري تبكي مبتلة أخذها معه إلى كوخه الذي في الغابة المجاورة لكي يهدأها و بعدها حدث ما حدث . . . . ظنت ميندي أنها بالنوم مع هنري هذا أفضل ما حدث لها ، بل كانت في قمة السعادة . . . . فقد خسرت عذريتها مع الرجل الذي تحبه و تعشقه بكل قوتها و بكل ما لديها . . . . بعدها استمر الحال هكذا تخرج معه بالنهار و تكون في سريره بالليل . . . . قاطعت أهلها لأكثر من شهر و هي بين أحضان هنري . . . هو كان مولع بها جدا يغدقها بالدلال و الهدايا في النهار و ينعم بأحضانها في الليل . . . . لأول مرة يستمر مع فتاة أكثر من شهر بل زاد عن الثلاثة أشهر . . . و ربما هذا لأن ميندي حلوة و لا تشعره بالملل و ليست كبقية الفتياتاللائي يرغبن في مرافقته لاي مكان . . . . بل تترك له مساحة ليخرج مع أصدقائه ، تتشارك معه همومه ، تحتويه بين أحضانها ، و تواسيه من كل ما يؤرقه في العمل . . . . . بيتر ظن أن هنري هذه المرة صادق و قد أحب ميندي و هذا لأن صديقه لا يبقى مع فتاة أكثر من شهر و لكن هذه المرة مختلفة . . . . هذا هو الشهر الرابع له مع ميندي ، لذا في حفلة اجتماعية للطبقة الراقية لمح صديقه من بعيد و قرر الاعتذار منه و مصالحته . . . . و فعلا فعل ذلك و لكن تغير رأيه عندما دخلت فتاة هي إبنة أخ الكونتيسة سيليا ، حتى هو أعجب بها ، كانت صافية كالحليب ، عيناها الزرقاء كالبحر تذهب العقل . . . خصلات شعرها السوداء هذه قصة أخرى ، نظر في عيني هنري و لم تعجبه النظرة التي رأها . . . فهو قد حفظها و تمنى أن يكون نظره به خلل و أن يكون شكه خاطئ هذه المرة . . . . .
