Today was the day that granny would discharge from the hospital. Since I met with Eric last two days ago, I haven't had a chance to talk with mom and granny. Now granny was discharged from the hospital, she was also feeling better than before so I decided to talk with them today. Also Steve also moved back with us from today.
It was a long tiring day, I was waiting for my brothers to arrive home so that I could talk asap. I was in my room and kept checking the clock. It was already 5 pm and still no sign of my brothers. I had the feeling that might not go easy, my stomach started hurting because of anxiety. I went to mom’s study room to find her. I had run out of patience to wait for my brothers to arrive.
Mom was busy with some files from her table. “Mom, can I talk to you now?” I asked cautiously. “Yeah sure, sweetie,” she said. I carefully observed her mood, she seemed like she was in a good mood. I was thinking how to start the conversation in the best way without ruining mom’s good mood.
“Ahhh____ ahhh, you know mom, about the thing that you said at the hospital, can we talk about it now?” I said. “Oh__ about that Julia called me earlier, Eric agreed for the marriage,” she said. At that moment I was out of words, I thought that Eric and I were on the same page. What made him change? My mind was full of questions but I realized it was not the time to question. I needed to stand on my own decision.
“Mom, sorry to tell you, I’m not going to marry him. No, I don’t want to marry him,” I said calmly as much as I could. I saw mom’s mood changed suddenly. I knew mom didn’t like my decision. “Lily, you know this is not just my wish, it’s your grandma's wish too. It’s for your own good too,” mom said. “Mom I’m good on my own. I can take care of myself. Also I don’t want to marry a stranger,” I said, observing mom's expression.
“Lily, it’s not just about you. It’s not a child play also. I cannot say no when the other family already agrees on this,” she said. I could tell from her tone she was not going to change her mind easily. I was mad, mad at mom and everyone from this family. My anger was building up. I felt like I was the timing boom. It was about to blow up.
“Mom, you know, you are not reasonable on this. You didn’t even ask me first and do it on your own. So I have no reason to follow or accept your plan,” I said firmly. “Lily, this is the end of talking about this. You are going to marry him,” she said. It was more like demand. There is no way I would let her continue her plan.
“No way I’m gonna marry him mom. I hate him. I don’t like him,” I said. “Lower your voice, your grandma is in the next room,” mom said. “Why me? Why not Nick? Why not Steve? They are older than me and if someone needs to build that will be them,” I said. I was really frustrated about everything. I didn't want to talk about it anymore and wanted to take a rest.
“You know what mom, forget about everything. My final decision is I’m not going to marry him,” I said, walking out from the room. I needed to get out of here and needed to fresh my head. I grabbed my purse and car key. I was at the front door headed to my car and I bumped into Nick and Steve.
“Where are you going?” Steve asked. “I need fresh air, going anywhere, don’t know yet maybe Nicole's place,” I replied. My face was so grumpy. They knew it was because of the talk with mom. “I know a pub, let’s go there. We will go with you,” Nick said. I just nodded and followed them.
I ordered a tequila shot as soon as we arrived at the pub. After I took one shot I ordered another two more shots and beer. “Wowo, slow down sis,” Nick said. “Don’t stop me tonight. I need this,” I said both of them. While we were waiting for our drinks, “mom told me he agreed to marry me,” I said. They didn’t say anything just looked at each other and looked at me. “Why Nick? Why me Steve? Why not you guys” I urged both of them.
I kept complaining and nagging about everything. They were just there and listening to all my nagging and complaining. They knew I needed that. After drinking three tequila shots and beers I felt tipsy and they suggested going back. We arrived home after a few minutes' drive. I was headed to my room. “Good night guys, thanks for tonight. Love you,” I said to both of them. “You too, goodnight. Love you too,” Steve said. “Sis, we got your back. Whatever decision that you made, Steve and I are always by your side. Sleep tight,” Nick said before I closed my room door. I felt very lucky that I had both of them as my brothers.
I felt a little bit better after venting out some tonight but I still felt I needed to say something to Eric. With those thoughts I send a message to him. I wrote to him “you liar, you ruin everything of the plan. You better fix it by tomorrow”. After sending him a message,I fall asleep.
