Chapter 9

Alexander I wake up feeling pain all over my body, my side and my shoulder hurting the worse. I feel drained and it makes no sense. The sun is glaring in my eyes and I roll over groaning, trying to get away from the light. I touch my side holding on to the place it hurts the most and I look around my room in confusion. It feels like someone tried killing me in my sleep but there is only my own scent and the faint scent of Rachel from when she was in my room last night. My door is suddenly kicked open and my father walks in. He doesn’t understand the meaning behind knocking and privacy. He has a deep frown on his face and I know it’s best not to comment on his lack of respect for my privacy. I quickly sit up straight, refusing to show any weakness even with the amount of pain my body is in, he will take advantage of any weakness I show him. He wanted to come barging into my room to show me he is in control, and for now, I will let him have that. “You showed disrespect to not only the bear king but also our family and lovely Rachel when you nearly dropped her on the floor, running from the diner last night. And don’t for one second think I didn’t see that you were following that werewolf b***h. I hope you got what you wanted from her last night, because if I even see you looking in her direction again today, you can forget about having my throne.” He says and if not for the body raking my body, I would’ve ignored common sense and clawed his throat out for saying that s**t about Fraya. He speaks about her with so much disrespect and my dragon wants me to take vengeances for our mate. “You better be ready in an hour. We will be meeting for breakfast before we listen to a few boring speeches and requests and then we will be heading to sign that damn treaty. I expect you to make a good impression and you better think of a good apology for the bear king.” He says before he leaves my room. I sigh in relieve when he is gone before I slump back down on my bed. I obeyed my father and didn’t once try and look for Fraya, no matter how hard it was. I apologized to the bear kind but he didn’t seem to really care, if anything, I am sure it was some entertainment for him. I spoke to nearly every shifter in the room, making sweet talk and playing my part. I was worried at first when I couldn’t catch Fraya’s scent anywhere in the room and it was making my dragon on edge, but she walked into the room about thirty minutes ago and I have to constantly remind myself not to look at her. I started feeling less pain by the time we made it to the diner. I still have a dull pain in my shoulder, but it’s not enough to distract me from the scent of my mate or of my father’s eyes on me. Rachel has been stuck to my side and I hated that Fraya had to see me with another woman. I didn’t have much of a choice where Rachel is concerned, I was told to be her escort this morning, the second I walked out of my room and not to make a scene about it. I need to keep reminding myself that I am doing this for the throne and for my people. My father leads us to a group of people and when the smell of forest and wild flowers hits my nose, I look from the fox king standing next to me, to see Fraya two feet from me. I quickly turn my head to the fox king again but I keep her in my line of sight. She looks pale and her eyes look hollow. Her eyes are locked on the person on my side and I realize she is staring at Rachel with venom and a promise of vengeance. She has a black dress on that covers every piece of skin, from her neck to her toes, only her face and hands showing, the complete opposite of what she was wearing yesterday. “My lovely wolf queen!” The fox king exclaims when his eyes land on her. He breaks away from me and gives her a kiss on the hand and drawing her attention away from Rachel. I take the opportunity to look at Rachel, only to find her smirking at Fraya. I wonder what she did to piss Fraya off and I have to tighten my hold on my dragon as he wants to go investigate what she did to upset his mate. I know I need to lead Rachel away from Fraya before one of the two cause’s drama and my money is on the drama queen beside me. As we walk past Fraya, Rachel bumps her shoulder hard and I feel pain flare up in my shoulder, the same shoulder that she had bumped Fraya on. I let out a low growl in warning and wonder what the f**k is going on. Am I feeling Fraya’s pain? Is that even possible? I have never heard of one mate feeling another mates pain, and if it is her pain I am feeling, was it her pain that woke me up this morning? Rachel gives a fake innocent shake of her shoulders at my warning growl and I quickly drag her on her arm out the door and head to the bathroom. I tell everyone to get out, not caring of this reaching my father. Knowing now how delusional Rachel is, she might probably spin this into a story of how I couldn’t resist her and took her to the bathroom to have my way with her. “What did you do to her?” She pretends to be confused at my question. “Don’t even try to bullshit me. What did you do to Fraya?” I growl at her. “I gave her a warning to stay away from my mate. I honestly expected more of a fight but she was so weak she couldn’t even leave a scratch on me. I don’t see what men see in her, I think she made up rumors about killing off our kind.” She says and I throw her against the opposite wall. She looks at me with surprise before she starts smiling at me. “I like a man that shows a bit of dominance.” She says, getting on her knees and crawling to me. I want to f*****g strangle her, but the only way to get through to her f****d up head would be to end her pathetic life. I change my hand into claws, ready to cut her throat out, but just before I bring my hand down I am pushed against the wall and my mate’s hands are wrapped around mine, keeping me from killing Rachel. Her smell brings me back from my red hot rage and I take a second to breathe her in before looking down at her. “Why did you stop me? After what she did to you?” I ask her confused. “If she dies, it will be by my hand! I didn’t kill her just so that you could do it. I fought hard for this treaty and I am not letting my people go to war because of some demented bitch.” She tells me before she lets me go and turn to Rachel who is still on her knees, watching the exchange between me and Fraya. “Get up from the floor, you are putting women to shame sitting on the floor like that and begging for scraps!” Fraya grabs her by the neck and pulls her to her feet, proving that she isn’t weak. “You will say nothing of this. If anyone asks, you will tell them that the two of you were horny and couldn’t resist each other. Am I understood?” Rachel doesn’t say anything, just nods her head once and Fraya let’s go of her neck before turning around and walking out, leaving me with a hard on at her display of power.
