Felicity's first instinct was to shove Levi away and slap him. The kiss, as sudden as it was, felt so damn good. It was nothing. She had to remember that. This was all an act, and she quickly jostled her thoughts to remind herself that this was a fake relationship, and someone must have come in that he wanted to sell it to.
“The hell is this?" A gruff voice asked from the doorway.
She felt Levi slowly pulling away, as though neither one of them wanted the kiss to end. She certainly wasn't in a hurry for it to. Their lips parted and he looked over at Roger, “I was going to tell you dad, but I'm in love with this woman."
Roger's eyes widened in shock. “You told me this was just a misunderstanding, son."
“It wasn't the time to tell you. I was just about to take her to come meet you."
Felicity felt her throat tighten. Was he serious? Did he really intend on taking her to meet his parents after this? Did he know his dad was coming? She wanted to drag him by the ear at that point and demand answers to the anxious questions going through her mind.
“You're engaged, Levi." Roger stated with a warning in his tone.
Levi rolled his eyes, “Did you ever read the contract yourself before having me sign it?"
“Most of it. Enough to know that you signed an agreement to marry Amanda."
“I'm not marrying Amanda. This is Felicity Griffin and she's the mother of my child."
It took every ounce of strength in Felicity not to flip out on Levi at that moment. They had just agreed not to say anything about the pregnancy right now and here he was airing out the dirty laundry to his father. Roger turned pale and she swore that he was going to faint on the spot.
“She's pregnant? With your child?"
“You can't say anything, dad. Please. I just promised her that we were going to keep this a secret."
“Oh, you don't have to worry about me saying a thing. But this will be handled. You mark my words." Roger turned and looked at Felicity, “Has he told you that he is in an arranged engagement?"
Levi looked at Felicity, his eyes practically telling her what to say. She blinked and turned her gaze to Roger. “That doesn't stop me. I love your son, I'm pregnant with his child, and we're going to be a family."
“No, you won't." Roger snapped.
“It's already in the tabloids." Levi argued.
Roger shook his head in dismay, “What are we going to tell Amanda's family when she gets back from traveling?"
Levi stood in front of Felicity, “That I've fallen in love with Felicity and that we're raising this baby."
“You know the consequences of breaching the contract."
“I do, but right now, the engagement is still on. Felicity has agreed to be my mistress."
Mistress? Felicity felt as though she was in some forbidden mafia romance. She'd read all the books where arranged marriages happen and the true love one is the mistress. It's all fake. She told herself.
“Bring her for dinner Thursday night. Your mother is going to want to hear all about this." Roger chimed in.
“I will." Levi said with a confident smile.
Roger left and Levi turned to Felicity. “I meant to tell you he was coming and that I would have to kiss you. But the son of a b*tch was early."
“A warning would have been nice, but I get it. What I don't get is why you just revealed to him that I'm pregnant when you just told me that we wouldn't be telling anyone!"
“He has to know so that I can mess things up in my arrangement. My father may be a stickler for it, and that's exactly the reason he's the best third party to know."
“Does he live in this building?"
“God no, but he does own it."
“Oh, lovely."
“Don't worry, he's not going to be dropping by your place un-announced."
“Good."
“Let's go get your place picked out, shall we? There are quite a few options."
It was happening all too quickly. Felicity had already made the decision not to announce the pregnancy as there was a complicated situation attached to it outside of her agreement with Levi. She told her work she needed to take a temporary leave, they agreed to put up her job as a temp position for someone else until she was ready to come back. She wasn't sure how to deal with her apartment as she had just barely moved into the place.
She walked to her special spot on the beach to watch the sunset like she did every night. Her fingers trailed a pattern in the sand as she listened to the waves crash against one another. The salty breeze blew through her hair, and she welcomed all of it. It always served as a sweet nostalgic reminder of what it was like to be there with Marco by her side. Someone came and sat next to her, holding out a wine glass to her.
Felicity looked up to see Penny sitting there with her. “I'm pregnant, I can't drink."
“That's why I brought sparkling juice. Grape flavor of course." Penny replied as she poured the fizzing, dark burgundy liquid into the glass. “I figured I'd find you here when you didn't open your door. I really am sorry about this mix-up, City. I know that nothing can make up for it, but I'm trying anyway as you are a valued friend of mine."
Felicity took a sip of the juice, the bubbles tickled her upper lip and fizzled down her throat creating a mild burning sensation. “There are worse mistakes that can occur in the medical field I suppose."
“Does this mean you accept my apology?"
“No, but it's a start." She smiled.
“How are you feeling?"
“Confused. This baby was supposed to be Marco's, and it's not."
“What are you going to do about the baby?"
That was a question Felicity had been asking herself since the moment the wrong swimmers were injected into her. She was never able to answer it until Penny put the question into words and Felicity heard them. The situation she was in all formed a tangled web and it was all going to be spun with lies. “I haven't told anyone I'm pregnant, and I don't want to. But I've decided I'm going to carry out this pregnancy. I don't believe in abortion. I'll be giving it up for adoption when it's born."
Penny nodded in understanding. “And what about this guy you've started seeing; does he know you're pregnant?"
